For my rhetorical ad I choose to include an advertisement done by apple in the early 2000s. It’s often well cited and claimed to be one the best ads of all time by many great entrepreneurs such as Simon Sinek. So I asked while I was watching it about “Why does he think it’s one of the best?”. The ad is very short, and features images of famous figues who Apple says “think different”. They appeal to the audience by showing people the world respect and hail as heroes. Martin Luther King, Gandhi, John Lennon, and Mohammed Ali.

Steve Jobs narrates the entire ad, he calls these heroes the misfits, the rebels, the different. This ad appeals to the audience’s emotion using rhetorical strategies of pathos. The ad is saying is if these heroes think different, so should you. “ because it’s the crazy people who change the world”. Every person shown in the ad was someone who had the courage to say that they were different and can make a differencein the world around them. “Think Different” was one of the leading thought process behind everything Steve Jobs did when he ran Apple. His goal was always to go above and beyond and change the world like many of the people he had appear in this ad. If he lived to this day, he would see that his dream still lives on.

The audience how powerful of an ad this because those great heroes we hold in the spotlight were once everyday people. Steve Jobs says to think differently like them we should buy apple products because it’ll change the world. And seeing the aftermath now, we know what Apple said is true, The ad’s powerful appeal to pathos encourages everyone even if they haven’t heard of apple to “Think Different”. And by “Thinking Different” you can become one of those great heroes shown in the ad.  The ad also appeals to style because of the language that is used. The entire concept is about “Being the odd man out”, standing out from the crowd to be a hero. They persuade the buyers or people watching their ad that to be that hero, Apple is the answer. In my opinion, this is a great advertisement overall, and I can see why it’s been acclaimed as one of the best out there of all time.

  1. Black and white videos tend to tug on heartstrings more than other videos do, so I completely agree with your argument that this advertisement appeals to the audience’s pathos.
