15 Things Thinking Like an Artist

1. Don’t limit art to just drawing or painting. There are so many different forms of art, from photography to just plain old speaking.

2. Don’t be discouraged by others when they say your art makes no sense because art is subjective.

3. You don’t become a great artist overnight, you have to put effort into it and practice.

4. Respond well to criticism. As an artist, criticism is what helps your art improve, especially if they’re giving you advice and not simply bombarding your art style.

5. Don’t be rude and attack other people’s art style, everyone starts out somewhere.

6. Build connections and expose yourself to different pieces of art.

7. There is always something you can learn, don’t be stubborn and say you know everything, because truth is there is someone out there much more knowledgeable than you.

8. Always take a break when you need to especially when you encounter an artist block.

9. Practice everyday, it’s something that everyone tells you to do but the truth is, it helps.

10. Art is subjective, don’t take it with a grain of salt if someone can’t look at an art piece the same way you do.

11. Always have somewhere to display and keep your art, especially in this day and age where the internet is so readily available. (Instagram, tumblr, etc.)

12. Set aside time to work on your art.

13. Don’t limit yourself to learning one thing, learn multiple things.

14.When learning something new, start with the basics, don’t jump around and question why you can’t do something.

15. If you’re someone who wants to be an artist but is scared to start out, what are you waiting for? Just do it! Better to start now than later.
