Great work of literature is something that is able to influence the minds of the people. It teaches a lesson that helps people become better people and live a better life. Tao Te Ching is a list of traditional philosophical teachings of Laozi. It is greatly appreciated and valued in China. Tao Te Ching holds the purpose of teaching others how to live in the world with goodness and integrity. Most of its sections focus on learning self-awareness and improving quality of life. Another aspect of the great work of literature is that it is able to last and get passed on by people. As we can see now, Tao Te Ching still places great importance in people’s lives today. The philosophical teachings are still being valued in schools and workplaces. In China, parents would discipline their children with the teachings in Tao Te Ching. This Chinese work of literature influences world harmony and brought peace to most people’s inner selves. It brings a message to the people. The philosophy of Tao Te Ching signifies the fundamental or true nature of the world. It is essential in the principles of following the Earth, harmony with nature, success, and affluence in bio-diversity. Not only does the great work teach a lesson, but also it was also accepted by society during ancient times and now. It posed paradox in the poem allowing two sides of the story to be told. The meaning of each verse is ambiguous and each can be interpreted differently based on one’s situation and stance. It gives birth to a widely known concept of Yin and Yang where it signifies that humanity must balance the opposites of the world. From this, we can say that Tao Te Ching can be regarded as a great work of literature.
