The Battle of Truth

by Great Works

—Anonymous

I think that “Tartuffe” by Moliere and “Life of a Sensuous Woman” are both great examples of great works. These stories both portray great messages about the time period they are both written from. Tartuffe describes a life during the reformation period in our history. Tartuffe is really about religion and how people in this time period take afterlife very seriously. Life of a Sensuous Woman has a little bit of a different story but has the same concept as Tartuffe. Life of a Sensuous Woman is about a woman who really uses her beauty to get around basically using her beauty to control men that she has intimate relationships with. Both readings have a common idea about power and being able to control someone into doing things that they would normally not do. The reason I believe both readings are great works are because of the stories and the strong message that is portrayed in both. It shows the reader events that occurred and how people reacted, but we all know the most readings are like this what makes these readings different is how the author went against the ruler at the time for instance in Tartuffe. I really felt connected with Tartuffe because I had similar event happen to me in my own life when an outsider came into my group of friends and try to start to control everything by spreading lies. Which is what happened in Tartuffe. The person did all this in order to have power or control over everyone in our group which is why I enjoyed the reading at first no one notices what is going on but after a while there is one person that knows but everyone calls them crazy until they finally see it. Tartuffe it was a little different because Orgon was being controlled and everyone around him saw what was going on and it was not until the end he found out and get rids of Tartuffe. I felt that if I had ever had a similar situation the reading helped me to understand that you should always trust those that you have been around for a long time rather than believing something or someone else. I believe that both of these writings were great works but Tartuffe I felt told a story that many people can connect with and learn from.
