The story that I am going to be talking about is …

by Great Works

— Phillip Rozental

The story that I am going to be talking about is called “Adults Alone”. It is about two adults, a husband and wife, who send their two sons to Florida to spend some time with grandma, while the adults have their alone time at home. As I was reading the story, it seemed to me that the main point was that the couple is sick and tired of each other and that their marriage wasn’t going to last, but there was so much more to this story. This was their main reason for sending the kids away for this so called “vacation”. They wanted to spend some quality time alone, without having to worry about cleaning up any mess, or the kids in general. Kids don’t ruin relationships in the long run, but they do make life a lot more boring and difficult sometimes. Getting away from that is something that a couple would love to do from time to time. The way this couple decided to spend their time without the kids was by trying a drug that they saw on tv. I had never seen this coming and I was so surprised to read that their idea of alone time would be to take crack. This sort of made me feel uncomfortable because high-end drugs like this are no joke and it can lead to the worst possible life ever. While the effects were present, the couple had a blast and bonded. It felt as though they were young again, living through their early years where they were so fond of each other. This is exactly what they missed and yes, doing drugs is obviously not the way to deal with your pain, no matter how bad it is, but they didn’t do this for the drugs. They did it to save their marriage and to remember what it felt like to be together and how much they love each other because during the hardest times, people are capable of doing the most useless things known to mankind. It’s great to be challenged because you can come up with alternative ideas and find out that there’s more to this than meets the eye. For example, consuming the drug that they did might’ve saved their marriage, but actually ruined their life in the process. No one can try a drug, like it, and be done with it. Once you’re hooked, you’re hooked and there’s no coming back and every day the urge to consume the drug would increase until you would do absolutely anything to acquire it. After analyzing this text thoroughly, it made me realize that there is no need to rush your life, find love, and get married because you’ll know when it’s time for all of that. You should live your life to the fullest and do anything you want, but up to a certain age because at one point, all you’ll want is to come home to a healthy, loving, and growing marriage and the problem with Elaine and Paul was that they missed their youth, they missed the stuff that they had never gotten to do and this is why they did crack.
