Welcome to your ENG 2100T class.

Class theme: “Pandemic writing: Stories of change and resilience.”

As we approach year 3 of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ed Yong, a Pulitzer Prize award-winning writer, reminds us of the “omnicrisis” status of the pandemic, in the way it complicates every aspect of our lives. However, being in quarantine as we have allowed opportunities to contemplate and reflect on oneself and others. This course explores social changes brought by COVID. We will have academic discussions on issues that, in part, came more into focus because of the pandemic, such as systematic racism, mental health, hybrid work, polarization in social media, and housing. We will explore these topics to launch a critical inquiry, putting our ideas into writing. While talking about those topics, the class will discuss the foundation of academic writing in different contexts to address different audiences. The major assignments will be a literacy narrative essay, a rhetorical analysis essay, and a research paper.
