Social Network Sphere aka First Prompt

Social Networking has evolved the way people communicate in many ways. Not only has it become one of the most convenient ways to reach someone, it has become the fastest as well. People can get a hold of each other within minutes or for that matter seconds.  It all depends on if that person has a mobile device that can use social networking sites. The site that I personally use and am still amazed to this day how much the website has changed since  becoming a user of it in 2006 is Facebook.  Facebook used to be a website that was meant for college kids only.  As the site progressed it became available to everyone.  I personally didnt like it back in 2006 because it was too formal and plain but i used it because i had found childhood friends and acquaintances that i havent spoken to in a long time.  After Myspace began to head downhill due to the fact that it became way too flashy for me and i just didnt see the point in using the site, I had switched over to Facebook and began to use it more frequently. What amazed me was the fact that almost within an instance many people began switching over and it started to grow drastically when it began adding on games and a marketplace to sell things. I have personally used the marketplace to sell concert tickets to a complete stranger.  Within any given day if I need to contact someone, i can just send them a message on facebook or even write on their wall compared to the old age means of communication which was strictly a phone call or maybe text message/email.  There were some people I had met once and hardly had spoken to, while there were others I became really good friends with.  I wouldnt have made these friends without the help of a middleman to reach them for me aka Facebook.  This really is part of a social network sphere because if it hasnt already started, in the future people will just use social networks to do anything from place advertisements for personal items to sell, to even finding news topics to talk about.

This is interesting, Roman. Why do you think people fled MySpace after the appearance of FB? I’m curious to know more about why you found FB appealing in 2006 and why you preferred it to MySpace. Did you ever use Friendster before that?

  2. Sorry for the delay, I think people fled MySpace because it began to look too bright in terms of all the custom graphics, and it started to look more and more distasteful. I began to find Facebook more appealing because it was simple networking website with just similar capabilities as myspace such as adding friends and chatting with others. The website wasnt as fancy, but it was more organized, as you can find people on Facebook faster. I heard of Friendster but have never had an account with them.
