Publication 1: Lost Between the Extensivity/Intensivity Exchange by Warren Neidich
This publication was very simple and fun to look at. The pages inside had plain black font printed on 8”x 14” or legal size paper. Alongside with the black font there were black and white photographs that completely illustrated the theme of the book. One element of the publication that caught my attention was the hard cover. The hard cover had hand-drawn art and was drawn with crayons and composed of tape and glue.
Publication 2: Group Work edited by Temporary Services
What I liked was that there was dialogue in the book. It felt as though I was reading a fiction novel. I like story telling in any publication that I read. Group Work is a soft-cover publication in which the cover is sketched out and possibly scanned into Photoshop. I can tell that a lot of work has been put into it. As far as the style is concerned, there are seven books glued at the margin and you cannot fully open the book 180 degrees, flat on the table.
Publication 3: Art on Paper by Melvin Edward Nelson; September/October 2009 Edition volume 14 no. 1
Art on Paper seems to be a comic book by the looks of the cover. The cover has pink and black drawings on it and looks very animated. When I opened the book, there were colorful pictures inside that were entertaining to look at. The pictures were very detailed and fun. Although the cover looks like a comic book, the inside was like a magazine and when I started reading, it was like reading a magazine.
Publication 4: Fierce Pussy
I want to make a point that the style of this publication is a nice one. However, the title is a little offensive and the content of the publication is a little much. But what was interesting is the biography-type style of the book. The title is engaging to the audience and adds a level of mystery to the cover. I became intrigued after I walked away from the book to see the reaction of others. Observing others and their interaction with the book was interesting. Also, I found it amusing to the reactions of others in the bookstore. The facial expressions were priceless. One woman who was examining the book after me made a face illustrating that she was intrigued by the language of the book.
Publication 5: S books by Ed Ruscha copyright 2001
This publication was simple but genius. Every page has a different S on it. The book is very small and easy to hold. As I flipped through the pages, I got dizzy because there were a wide variety of colors. I have not seen that many S’s in my life. I like a book that makes me think about different designs to apply to one idea. I would like to design a book like this one day.
Publication 6: Rock/Music Writings by Dan Graham
One awesome part about the publication was that it was dedicated to Roy Lichtenstein. He seems important. Another part that caught my attention was that there are 14 small books glued at the margin. In the first 20 pages, the author plays with the typography such that he makes different designs with the words. One example of this is that the word Love makes an upside down U.
