4. The Government Needs To Step In

Not enough is being done to aid the garment workers in such a critical situation. The government needs to step in to aid the garment workers being in such a critical situation. Garment workers contribute to 80% of the economy and are the most vulnerable and overworked citizens. They need to be respected and given what they deserve for contributing so much towards the economy. The Bangladeshi government needs to work on distributing aid packages delivered to families, as they receive millions in aid towards poor citizens of the country. The government needs to recognize that they need to be supported and given rights as workers. The Bangladeshi government received a $588million dollar relief package which has not been distributed to these workers. (Karim, 2020). This is problematic because this money needs to be funneled towards families that are struggling to survive, not towards businesses or individuals that already have substantial wealth.

5. Retail Companies Need To Take Ownership

Others may argue that Bengali workers still work in these conditions despite receiving pay or no pay and these workers are desperate to keep the job no matter what it entails. Big corporations might say that they are paying workers well but factory owners in Bangladesh are pocketing the money. “DHAKA (Thomson Reuters Foundation) …will sue factory owners that do not pay their staff during the coronavirus lockdown, an official has warned, with tens of thousands of garment workers struggling after factories shut without paying March wages.” (Karim, 2020). Bangladeshi factory owners oversee production and suero we use garment workers in providing the labor in the favorites, however they have taken advantage of the system through stealing the wages of the workers. It is necessary that these retail companies take action against the factory owners that are stealing wages. These companies cannot refuse to claim liability about what affairs occur within those factories. Thus, it is the responsibility of the company to regulate the companies and they need to assure oversight. It is the companies’ responsibility to protect the workers because all the lives lost and all these families that are struggling are happening as a result of their careless actions. There are many workers and families that are struggling due to their ignorance and carelessness of this critical situation. “”I still get calls from workers every day who say that they have not been paid and that they are struggling. They don’t deserve this,” said Nazma Akter head of Sommilito Garments Sramik Federation, which represents 100,000 workers.” (Karim, 2020). Retail  corporations should be held accountable/ face charges with responsibility towards what happens in their factories and all the laws they are violating. They should pay reparations to the families that are struggling (garment workers) and should establish as a result a set of laws and a cap to production in light of the pandemic (giving their workers paid leave or hazard pay because of the coronavirus).
