DAY ONE:

Congratulations for making it here!

Someone or something has motivated you to run and you’ve prepared some running shoes. Now what?                                                                                                                                           The first question you should ask yourself at this point is “What is my goal?”                You should define your reasons and goals for running before you decide which workout to choose. Will you be running a 5k race next month? Or will you be entering in a marathon next year? Some may just want to increase endurance and achieve an overall stronger body. With a clearly defined goal, you will be able to track your progress and see yourself move closer and closer to your desired objective. Personally, I’ve found it so much more motivating to have something to work towards than to just go out and run. This doesn’t apply only for running, but for anything in life; we all need some sort of purpose behind our actions and the more important these purposes are to us, the more time and effort we will put into them to achieve it. So when you specify your running goal, make sure that achieving that goal has great value for you. This way, you can avoid quitting and giving up in the middle of your workout plans. You will be surprised how much dedication and commitment one can exert with passion behind it.
After you have specified you goal, now it’s time to test your current running ability.       This will give you an idea of your ideal pace for the various workouts and what to aim for.    Go to “Running Assessment” to read about the different methods you can use to test your current ability.
So now you have a clear goal and you also know where you stand as a runner. That’s a great start! Now you’re ready to use this website to create your very own runner’s log and keep track of your progress. Make sure you choose the workouts that match your ability and also pay attention to the frequency of your training. If you are a beginner or you have an upcoming race, then you should avoid over working yourself and tiring out too early in your training. It’s extremely important to balance your workout plan depending on your ability and purpose. Read more about this under, “Knowing which workouts to choose.”
So… Runners Get Set!
