Who really is…Julian Solorzano?

My name is Julian Solorzano. I was born and raised in Queens NY. After high school I attended City-Tech college as an architecture major for a year before I decided to enlist in the United States Airforce. When I was in the Airforce i lived in England for Two years where I had the opportunity to travel across Europe and experience all the different cultures and visit all of my favorite historic sights. For the last two years of the Airforce I lived in Louisiana where I was able to travel all over the southern United States and experience a different American culture as well. I returned to New York in 2019, where I immediately started attending Baruch.
I currently major in Entrepreneurship, and am in my last semester. During Covid, I managed to get a part time job at a wine store here in Queens, and even tried fermenting my own wine over the summer. I currently have a website and blog about making alcoholic drinks from home called Cocktailhammer.com. After graduation I hope to get my foot in the door at a major media company. Until then I will continue building myself and my entrepreneurship goals.
I hope that this course will help reinforce all of the skills I’ve been working on ever since I started my journey as an entrepreneur. So join me as we explore the wilderness of entrepreneurship, and just like Sacagawea, I will do my best to help us navigate through this concrete jungle until we’ve explored the wild of the unknown…um…market.. for a successful startup. I’m still working on the entrepreneur in the wild analogy.

Tik-Tok: what kids today are calling “Lit”

In 2016, the app TikTok took the world by storm. It was created by Zhang Yiming, a “Internet Entrepreneur: from China. TikTok is the eventuality of the amalgamation of three different apps, Musical.ly, Douyin, and ByteDance. TikTok is a free app but generates most of its revenue through ads. Its value leans on its billions of customers that use it daily, and the TikTok algorithm that tailors each users needs to fit their likes and interests.

The TikTok mission statement is “to inspire creativity and bring joy”. I believe that the original attraction surrounding TikTok stemmed from 1) the value given back to younger viewers who wanted to be entertained or express themselves, in a very short amount of time. 2) They wanted to take back a platform that they felt was their own, unlike other social media apps such as Facebook (which has a large amount of millennial plus users), Instagram (which has become saturated with sponsored companies, advertising, and influencers) and YouTube (who incentives users to make longer videos, as well as ads).
