Seeing the Brick

“…the true essence of animation is in the creation of movement of paper, the manipulation of clay, the adjustment of a model, etc., before the act of photographing the image, i.e. the activity that has take place between what became the final frames of film.” “…to animate is to ‘give life and soul to a design, not through the copying but through the transformation of reality”

These quotes stick out to me because the author doesn’t confine the art of animation to just one action, like pencil on paper. To him, animation is more of an extension of his reality. Through animation, you can make the impossible possible. You can make worlds that exist inside your head a reality. Animation is everything that happens before the pencil or pen hits the paper, before you snap the image with your camera. With animation you can breathe life into a flat design.
