EXTRA CREDIT- SoftBank buying 70% stake in Sprint

1.What does this mean for Sprint subscribers?
Its really agreat news for all the sprint subscriber. All subscribers can expect some cool updates and features in comming months from Sprint. I too felt Sprint was losing its position on wireless netowrk but with this deal its seems like it has got the reason back to claim its position on mobile and wireless network provider in United States once again. With the $20.1 billion dollar with SoftBank third-largest carrier of Japan has bring back rejoice and some hope to the Sprint subscriber.

2.Should AT&T and Verizon be concerned about Sprint’s new global partner?
Its a huge sum Sprite has got from this deal and i personally feel AT&T and Verizon should keep a close tab on Sprint. With this deal people are excited and some people has already decided to stick with Sprint for few more years with positive hopes and obviously its going to add new subscriber in comming months. Anyway increase revenue has always bring competition, which is better for its subscriber because we are going to get better product after all.

Extra Credit Assignment: How people in my country are using technology to improve their lives?

When I was growing up in the Dominican Republic, the municipality where I lived didn’t have 24 hour electricity. We experienced blackouts that will last more than half the day. Imagine being in the middle of your favorite telenovela or cartoon and there is an outage. You will just hear the collective complains of the people.  I did enjoy the peace and quiet that overcame my barrio (district) when there was a blackout. When the light returned everyone cheered and turned on their radios and televisions. The electricity problem in my country is still prevalent today, but mostly in poor areas, distribution networks cover 88% of the population. Populated areas like the capital Santo Domingo and Santiago have 24 hour electricity in commercial and tourist areas. One of the main reasons for the improvement of the electricity in the Dominican Republic is the use of Indra Technology to manage the electricity distribution system. My country has three electricity distribution companies, EDEESTE, EDESUR and EDENORTE. The contract between the government corporation CDEEE and Indra has implemented the Indra Smart Distribution (iSD) system which is a distribution network management system. This will allow the three power companies to start developing a more modernized system which will minimize the time required to connect new customers to the network and reduce supply distribution. It will also manage the notification of incidents and support the network operation process such as notifying the system of outages in specific locations to send a technician from the power company to investigate and fix problem. Indra will become the main supplier of technology services in the country’s electricity market.

Extra Credit 4 Final

Countries like China are using technology to control their population and supress any anti-goverment actions. Web sites are monitored for anti goverment talk. American web sites such as Google have limitations on what type of information they can provide to the chinese people. Other countries like London use there technology to have mass cameras all along the city streets

Neuroscience is a field that not too many young people think about going into.  But Greg Gage is trying to change that. He shows simple DYI things you can do to get started. He actually cuts a leg off of a roach and makesit move with an ipods music (which i think personally is creepy). This will certaily make young boys curious but i think it will scare off most young girls. But if his ideas spur on new growth in the study of neuroscience then it is positive.

How technology is used in Israel

I think that most people use technology the same way in most countries. We all use computers to communicate, learn and creat different things. We use smart onions to contact to other people, share information, pictures, videos and files. My family uses computers and phones to speak with me and my children for free. In the past international call or video calls were very expensive and had a lot of technological problem. Nowadays it is easy, fast and free. The Israeli government and business are using technology to promote tourism, investment and export.

Many companies in Israel are using the advanced technology to creat new and better products. one company was are to use technology to recycle solid waste in rather sewage to raw material. Those are used to produce paper and plastic. This invention is very helpful for a green environment.

A different company invent a solar energy system that based on CPV technology. The company uses special lenses to concentrate the suns’s rays to produce energy. This system produce double energy per unit area than other standard systems.

in addition technology is used for military purposes. One Israeli company invented a special hamlet that allows the pilot to fixate Bon a target by looking on it and shoot at it. Also the helmet has the ability to transform from day vision to night vision much faster than any other hamlet.

Extra credit: how technology is used in Germany

Basically we use technology the same way as in the U.S.

We use it in the private sector, infrastructure, in science, research, economic sector, public sector, education, non-profit organizations, the media etc.

Germany is one of the leading countries when it comes to applied research such as biomedicine, physics, technological/ pharmaceutical research and the automobile industry. Technology is ever present and we are constantly surrounded by it. No company could function without hardware, software, programs, different systems, the internet or IT support. Just like in the U.S. more and more services are provided by using your smart phones (ranges from e.g. ordering your groceries to booking a vacation). The use of technology makes our lives easier, it adds structure and helps us to improve our day-to-day life, gives us the opportunity to save lives and to make a profit.

Extra Credit – SoftBank buying 70% stake in Sprint

What does this mean for Sprint Subscribers?  Free international calls to Japan?  Who knows.  SoftBank is a Japanese company but that doesn’t mean that their going to merge their networks.  Sprint Subscribers probably won’t have anything much different.  Japanese management doesn’t mean better, just different.  Now if SoftBank could could increase download speeds, or offer an international plan that covers not just the US and Japan but the world, now that would be something to boast about.  As I see it now, its just the changing of the guard, but at the end of the day, its still the same guard.

Should AT&T and Verizon be worried about about Sprints new global partner.  Not really.  Even if SoftBank and Sprint merge their networks, their only capturing a niche market of Japan/US business men or students or expats.  The market that everyone should be looking at is China, India and Brazil.  That’s where the real business is happening.  The first carrier to integrate all 4 countries will rule them all.  Doesn’t take a genius to figure out where all the money is coming from and where to set up shop.  Just takes a leader.

Backyard Brains: On Neuroscience and Cockroach Legs

It is important that future generations stay interested in neuroscience because the field is very important to us as a society. As is stated in the article one in five people will have some sort of neurological condition in their lifetime. Backyard Brains is trying to keep future generations interested by making some of the concepts and technologies associated with neuroscience more accessible to children. This will ensure that more people will eventually become involved in the field and hopefully lead us to a better understanding of neuroscience. As the article states we are in a sort of “dark age” at this time. The Spiker box used by Backyard Brains allows for you to control the legs of a cockroach because the same current used to listen to music through the earbuds of an Ipod is the same current that we use inside of our brain to send signals. Using the spiker box to play music directly in the the leg of the cockroach causes it to move with the music.

Technology to improve their lives

Basically its a same procedure as we do in the United States of America. Technology has been advanced rapidly in the academic institution as well as in the government offices and private sectors. Computers, fax machine, copy machine are used in all the places. There is a availability of 3G internet in the smartphones, choice of the messaging, group messaging and unlimited calls, prepaid calls are available.

Similarly, with modern technology, labor saving machines are used for most of the work such as to construct a road, building, and other infrastructure.  Machines are now doing the work of man and the labor force has been considerably reducing since the machines can do the job of several people at a time.
