Technology in Russia EXTRA CREDIT

I remember I visited my relatives for the first time in the Russian countryside when I was 9 years old. I was accustomed to watching TV, going on the internet, and playing video games back home in the United States. When I arrived in Russia, my relatives had none of those. They didn’t have a computer or anything similar to that in the household. They did have a TV but only had about 15 channels.

Visiting again seven years later, everything was different. It was almost like the technology caught up in that area. My relatives had laptops and used Skype and Facebook. The younger kids had video games such as Nintendo DS and Playstation. My aunt who is a lawyer said that purchasing the laptop made her job that much easier. She was able to have all her documents in one place- instead of keeping paper documents.

It was interesting to see how quickly technology changes. During the first visit, it seemed that there was almost no technology in this area. This didn’t affect anyone because they were accustomed to this. However for me- it was like traveling back in time. Seven years later, I was surprised to see so many changes in technology in the household. I’m sure during my next visit, it will be even more interesting to see how technology got upgraded!

What is the ‘Internet of Things?’ EXTRA CREDIT

By having more of our lives online, will our daily lives become more visible to outsiders on the internet?
How do we prevent outsiders from viewing and tracking even the smallest details of our lives?

It goes hand in hand, the more time you spend online- the more visible you become to everyone on the internet. Depending on what you do online; blog, facebook, or shop, you are constantly filling out information about yourself. When you’re on facebook, you are describing your everyday activities to others. You share your photos with everyone on the internet when you post a profile picture. All shopping websites will also store your information before you can make a purchase. Sites such as amazon and ebay will even gather your purchasing trends.

In order to prevent outsiders from tracking the smallest details of our lives, you need to be more careful on which information you’re sharing online. You should only post information that you are willing to release. You might think that if you post something on Facebook, it will only be shown on Facebook. However, these days that’s not the case. You can share something on facebook and it’ll spread throughout the whole internet within days. It’s completely up to you on how much information you’re willing to release to the internet.

Access at work

I thought I had submitted this assignment before but I was wrong.

I’ve never used Access before but after learning more about it, I realized how important it is in the work space. Access is used mainly for very large amounts of data. If you want to keep track of customer information such as names, addresses, and telephone numbers, then this data should be stored in Access. This information may grow to also include other data such as customer orders. Access is also most useful for importing and exporting databases. Overall it’s a very reliable and organized way to manage everyday work data!

Office 2013

It seems that this new Microsoft Office software is a huge step up from the old. This is especially true for the tablet versions. New options such as touch screen and cloud coverage will give users more freedom. Other options such as the new quick analysis tools will be very helpful as well!

Excel in the work space

My dad runs a business and Excel/spreadsheets are very important to keep track of employee payrolls and taxes for the company. Turbotax is an excel software that keeps track of tax for you which is very helpful for any business. All together, Excel can organize a company’s data and make it easier to look something up. Compare that to having a drawer full of folders!
