Backyard brains: On neuroscience and coackroach legs.

1.Neurology deals with the diagnosis and treatment of all categories of disease involving the central, peripheral, and autonomic nervous systems, including their coverings, blood vessels, and all effector tissue, such as mus
According to Greg Gage “basic neuroscience research is the answer to curing many of the most devastating neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.” He is stressing the need of informing younger generations about these diseases and how the brain works by using interactive and interesting methods taht are at the same time cost effective. Gage’s Spiker Box invention is just a first attempt in showing that technologies can really enhance the interest of all ages in studying neuroscience. For example, by recording the neurons of an insect on a device through an app it can be very interesting and appealing. Since our present is ruled by the advanced technologies, linking neuroscience with it can impact greatly the future interest of the mass in studying neuroscience. And this will in turn help generate more solutions for treating diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s that are affecting abut 20 % of the entire world and might affect a larger number of people in the future.

2. It is amazing how and I-pod can make a cockroaches leg move.
Cells of the nervous system, called neurons, are specialized to carry “messages” through electrical pulses traveling down long extensions called axons. Cockroaches leg starts to move once connected to the I-pod that is playing a song and generates impulses to the leg’s muscles. The output is neural activity, or “spikes”, that can be heard via a built-on speaker, or seen on your computer, iPhone, Android, iPad, or iPod Touch.

How is technology used in my country

I come from a former Soviet Republics, Moldova. My country is struggling with the legacy of a vast bureaucracy and corruption. However, the spread of technology offers real opportunities for empowering citizens for economic and social growth.
Moldova’s Governance e-Transformation (GeT) project is intended to modernize and improve public sector governance in Moldova, give citizens access to government documents and data for effective public use, improve the investment climate, and increase global competitiveness.By 2016, at least one-quarter of citizens are expected to access public services online or through mobile devices, thanks to GeT-supported programs.
As mobile penetration reaches 90 percent of the population, and Internet usage increases across the country, the Government of Moldova has made a commitment to using these communication channels for improved governance and citizen participation.
Besides the slow development of the country I am proud to say that Moldova has a fast Internet speed. Net Index, a site connected to the web diagnostics company Ookla, has a chart that shows Latvia, Moldova and Lithuania in the top ten, with the United States at 29.
Moldova government is developing digital transformation policy by stimulating innovations from citizens.

Great features of Microsoft Access

One of the powerful features of Microsoft Access is the ability for developers to create custom solutions using VBA code (Visual Basic for Applications), which is similar to Visual Basic 6.0. VBA code is currently used extensively throughout various Microsoft Office programs such as Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint. Most VB6 code including the use of Windows API calls can be used in VBA. Many Microsoft “Power Users” in addition to Access developers are able to extend basic custom end-user solutions to a professional solution by using advanced automation, data validation, error trapping, and multi-user support.
Microsoft Access features a relational database. One of the major advantages of a relational database is the ability to maintain relationships between different data tables. The power of a relational database makes it possible to ‘connect’ the data in many ways and ensure the consistency (or referential integrity) of this data from table to table. Creating relationships and ensuring consistency saves time and accuracy since each piece of information is only entered once which eliminates everyday human and duplication errors.

New things in Microsoft Office 2013

There is an interesting theme of Microsoft Office 2013 and that is Cloud Syncing”. I found a brief description of how it runs:
“Cloud syncing is pretty much the cornerstone of Office 2013. All of your documents are automatically saved to the SkyDrive folder on your desktop meaning that you can then access them from any of your devices, whether they run a dedicated Office app or not. What’s more, you can send out links direct from SkyDrive while also setting the levels of editing privileges when you want share your documents with friends and colleagues. If the person you’re sending to doesn’t have Office 2013, it doesn’t matter. A click on the link will open up a browser version online for them to read instead.”

How people are using Excel at work

Unfortunately, I don’t use Excel at my workplace but I have some basic knowledge of how to use the program.
This is someone sharing his experience with Excel:
“My experience with Excel in the workplace is that most Excel applications are developed by people whose job description includes something like ‘develop spreadsheets for use by accounting and administration departments in the company’.

For those in office support, admin asst positions, etc, the job description is pointed more towards data entry in Excel applications developed by the folks in the first group. More like a ‘database management’ thing.”

I also found some good info of why Excel is so important in the workplace:
