Blog #8 – Vincent La

As someone who is born with technology, I noticed that I rarely read books growing up. Instead, I watched many movies and shows growing up and I start to see many comparisons between both books and movies. One thing that the TedTalk mentioned really stood out for me was near the beginning of the video: “rereading and learning something new every time,” “learning about the world of the writer,” and “learning to connect to the people living in it.” Watching Youtube clips of movies and television series that I’ve already watched, I have noticed many things that stood out to me. After watching movies, I really started to respect actors and writers because of how they give characters human-like emotions and inner conflicts. They know how to turn a bland and boring character into a character the audience cares about. If you take a closer look at movie characters like Captain America from the MCU, you started to notice why he made the decision at the end. While watching a deleted scene from the Avengers(2012) (I don’t know why this scene is deleted), it shows how Steve Rogers felt, how he didn’t fit in the current society he is living in. I think you can even see him doing something similar in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and how he is still stuck in the past mentally. In the past, he was surrounded by allied and had to learn to adapt to people he doesn’t know. There are many other movies out there that can connect to character to the audience. This is just one example. Many movie adaptations of historical events even show why the characters are fighting and the character’s emotions. It gives a general idea of the historic event and why the said event was either good or bad.

(I felt like I could’ve written this a lot better. Generally, I wanted to write how a story could influence people as well because of how good the story is. Like when a story shows an emotional moment between a character and their parents, you also want to experience that as well and probably treat your parents better.)
