A TED talk by Dwinita Mosby called, ‘Want a more just world, be an unlikely ally’ spoke about the importance of the majority supporting the minorities. She brought up the examples of heterosexuals fighting for LGBTQ+ rights because they are already the majority; or white people fighting for equal rights of people of color. Going into ‘Bias and Police Killings’ podcast the topic of police brutality among the black community is the main discussion and the psychological aspect of these unfortunate events. They find out that in places that are higher in bias there are more police killings and this wasn’t a study taken upon police officers. These two sources explain how people can indirectly affect a specific community or group however the ted talk explains how it could be used positively and the podcast explains the negative aspect of it.
I think now knowing this I’ll put more effort into supporting groups that may be considered the minority in comparison to how i identify myself. I believe that everyone should be treated equally and it’s actually unfortunate that we have to fight for rights when they should already be there. The first source, Dwinita Mosby’s ted talk, spoke to me because originally i didn’t think it was my business to go ahead and speak up for other peoples problems, however, now i understand that i could possibly be an unlikely ally. In terms of the podcast i think it’s truly sick that you can determine where there might be police brutality. The fact that it happens so often that it can be predicted is scary for our country and it needs to come to an end as soon as possible. it truly baffling that there are people that still have conservative mindsets and cant wrap their heads around equality.
