Blog #1 – Liam Karr

As a learner at Baruch this semester, I have various intentions on how to develop my skills as a writer within this course. First of all, I am looking forward to learning how to write a better essay. Since we will be writing 3 essays in this course, I am excited to learn what I can do to make these essays better and take advantage of all my sources to provide the essay with proper evidence. Additionally, I am looking forward to reading texts in a critical manner since I believe that this can assist in making a stronger paper. Aside from this, I expect myself to struggle in making my papers flow correctly. In the past, I have learned techniques on what to do to have a proper flowing essay, but it was for a certain type of essay, so I feel that when faced with writing the research paper, I may struggle on having a proper flow of ideas and may not be able to get my point across. In my opinion you can show us how to format our papers and give us tips on what to do to make the papers better. Outside of the classroom, I intend to use a lot of my free time studying and working on getting a good grade in all my courses. Due to the fact that I work on the weekends, I will have to get a lot of my class work done during the week and when I am not at work. I believe I can handle it, but if it becomes too much, I will have to give up things in order to excel in my courses. Finally, I hope to gain more knowledge on how to be a better writer from this course, as well as having proper flow and being able to use my sources to the fullest.

  1. Yeah! I also understand how when I write an essay, it can be quite hard to format correctly. If this goes there or if that thing belongs here. Honestly, that can be a hassle and I also want to try and make my essays flow properly as well. I may not be the best at writing or giving good criticism, but I am happy to be working with you and the class. 🙂

  2. Wow working on the weekends and class + classwork, you’re brave! I also agree that making an essay flow properly can be a challenge but it seems like we are in good hands. Our professor is very good at explaining what she wants from us and I think our class is a very unified and supportive group so we can always help each other as well.
