Obama when he was young lived a life devoid of understanding conflicts between race and understanding the struggles of being a man of color.
His mother tried to protect him by encouraging him to be proud of his skin color but as he grew older and saw things like skin lightening creams and other events that signify the negatives of being black. It created conflicts within himself as he got older and started understanding his ancestry. He ended up becoming resentful to white culture and it drove him to hang mostly with radicals during a period in his life. But those feelings soon faded as he met this girl named Ana which allowed him to see the good he could do if he tried to help instead of remaining resentful. He had dreams and aspirations to effectively change the systems that were rooted in inequality. He was faced with constant failure as a result which caused him great pain and strife. But he never stopped trying, which illustrated the role he played. He instilled hope within People of color. During his Administration, I constantly heard the idea that “if a black man is president of the United States then it is possible to do anything in this country”. He helped ease racial tensions with what he meant as a figure and how he carried himself. one passage that stood out to me was a passage I found that went into detail about the life of Barack Obama’s dad and I found it very interesting that he was an amazing man as well. He went to Harvard and he was also a senior economist in Kenya. I found this interesting because it shows the role parents play in cultivating the future generation and how every action you take in your life truly matters.
