In the advertisement “Take it To The Next Level ” Nike uses rhetoric appeals of credibility and value to motivate consumers to not be scared to take the next step with the use of Nike accessories in this case soccer shoes and soccer balls.  Nikes advertisement persuades customers by showing the path- progression of a soccer player from playing in amateur leagues to playing with the best of the best soccer players. The video first starts with the player making a free-kick goal and then being scouted by a professional soccer manager. All of this in the first-person point of view perspective. It proceeds with him being in a premier league team (arsenal) and him playing against popular teams with popular players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Tevez, Ronaldinho, and more with all of them using different styles of Nike cleats. This engages the consumers because in our thoughts we think to ourselves, if the best players of soccer history are using Nike shoes and clothes to play soccer then I should too to be as good as them. This also makes the ad credibility increase a ton since a lot of soccer fans see these players as their idols and want to be just like them. The ad also shows the player’s pathway of training and becoming a successful soccer player plus becoming a wealthy person. It shows how he went from an old car to luxury cars with tons of fans and women. With this, the ad wants consumers and possible buyers to think that one of the reasons the man’s career is going so well is that he is using Nike accessories. The video finishes with him playing for his national team (Netherlands) which in a soccer career is one of the best things that could happen to you because it means you are one of the best players representing your country. In conclusion, Nike’s use of rhetorical appeal of credibility and value excites and convinces the audience to buy Nikes accessories to “Take it To the Next Level ” and one day them being the player that gets to play with professionals.

  1. I liked the use of ethos in your post. I feel a lot of ads use ethos so that their product or service is seen as credible in the eyes of the buyer. Nice post!

  2. I totally agree with you that many ads target fans of famous athletes and celebrities to show how successful they are while they use these products. Whether it be sports gear, cars, home appliances, and technologies they pretty much use the same concept. However, this post was very enjoyable to read, keep it up.
