Rhetorical devices, such as pathos, ethos, and logos play major parts in the arguments we have and see in our everyday lives. We see it in conversation, advertisement, etc. In the ad titled “Lets Go” for the new movie Shang-Chi, Marvel uses ethos to catch the viewers attention and use their ethics to make them interested in watching the movie. It is a very short ad but is able to persuade the viewer to go and watch the movie. The ad begins with the narrator showing how good the critics think the movie is. This appeals to ethos since it is showing a credible source of information. Although most of the time people will see a movie based on if it looks good or not, a lot of people let the critics dictate their choice since critics are typically highly respected movie reviewers. This form of Rhetoric works well because of the credibility it provides the viewer. You see a lot of companies use this appeal to ethos in their advertisements. The narrator concludes the ad by claiming it is the #1 movie in the world. Unlike the statements before this, the narrator just says this and does not provide a source for this claim. This appeals to logos due to the fact that viewers will most likely accept this as true because of all the previous statement from critics of the movie. It seems logical that the movie would be #1 in the world based off all the previous statements, especially since the statements given were from credible and respected sources. While the ad does appeal to logos and ethos, it does not apply to pathos, the rhetorical device that applies to emotion. In summary, Rhetorical devices, like pathos, logos, and ethos are used extremely often in every days things, such as conversation, entertainment, and advertisement.

It is very true that people let critics dictate if they watch the movie or not because some people may look up reviews and get turned away from watching the movie. Using ethos in the beginning is a great way for the ad to grab the audience’s attention.
I can agree with you that there or many ads that claim that their “product” or “service” is the best based on claims made by critics and celeberties. However, In my opinion half the time these claims are not reputable and simply made from emotions and benefits.
Ethos definitely describes this ad because of the critics and reviews. Also perhaps Marvel itself could be credible for example people see its made by Marvel and think It is bound to be good which could also fall under pathos.
Most people base their opinion on some stuff based on what other people say about it. Some people only like some stuff because everyone else is watching or listening to it. So of course if critics are claiming a movie is #1 some people may not even like marvel but just to see if is really that good they will watch it.
