While reading the article “Model Minority’ Stereotype. And it Creates inequality for All,” I’d noticed that they mentioned something about the “model minority” throughout. In this article, the main focus was Asian American inequality throughout history and how it also affects us today. I wondered, what made Asian Americans + other racial groups considered a “model minority”? Throughout the article, I noticed it mentions many times where Asian Americans were chosen out of pure racial injustice. Few examples include the Chinese Exclusion Act(1882) – An immigration law that made it illegal for people of Asian descent to enter the US, and the Japanese Internment Camps in World War 2. What makes these events unique is that Asians were the only ones put to blame due to them being a minority in the US. The article states that most Asian Americans felt that they didn’t belong in a country that is dominated by white supremacy. Unlike a typical lifestyle in America, Asian immigrants brought their cultures to the US and it felt very different from what people normally do which made it very hard for Asians to fit in. People didn’t see them as anything other than “aliens” from a different country. It is also the same for other racial groups as well like blacks, browns, and Natives. It also mentioned that there were also other European immigrants entering the US as well and they weren’t treated as nicely either. Unlike other racial groups, however, they fit into society very well because their lifestyle is similar to most other European that entered the US. In conclusion, I assume that the article is able, to sum up, what a “model minority” is. In the article’s sense, a “model minority” has to do with a minority group that is not accepted due to their cultural differences from society.

  1. I enjoy how you incorporate your own opinion regarding this topic and talked about how you felt regarding this issue, this is a good way to see different point of views between the author and readers.

  2. You defined what a ‘model minority’ is in a very understandable way, while also citing the article. Great job on implementing history and how it connects to the main point!
