Vietnam War: 1945-1975 Exhibition
FedEx was started by combining air and ground units together to transport resources quickly. This idea was thought of by a former soldier who saw the importance of logistics in warfare. The company became very successful and became a widely used delivery company, even today. It stood out to me how things soldiers experienced in the war were the foundation of FedEx. Transportation of resources is very important in warfare and our modern lives. This was interesting to learn about the beginnings of a delivery company that I use very often.
Something else that stood out to me was the music many of these soldiers were listening to. Most of the songs consisted of making it back home to their wives/families and about their everyday life during the war. It really shows that many families were broken apart after the war when fathers/husbands never came home. It also shows that these soldiers had dreams they had for when they went back home. And with the knowledge that many soldiers were just young men who were drafted, I can really picture myself in this situation. Many of these young men, who had their whole lives to look forward to were sent to war and never came back.
There is a picture called “Napalm Girl” where after a napalm strike on a town there was a girl found who was running among the crowd, naked with burns all over her body. This stood out to me because it shows how many civilians in Vietnam were becoming casualties in the war. This napalm strike ruined the town and killed many innocent civilians. This was used by people who were against the war to convince the public that this war was pointless and was doing more harm than good. This stood out to me because the picture showed children running away from this napalm strike attack. People who lived in Vietnam had to live in fear because living in their homes wasn’t safe and anywhere could turn into a battlefield. It saddens me to know that these children lost their lives in a war they weren’t even a part of.
This was a very detailed post. It helped me to better understand what the Vietnam War exibit is about without even having to view it for myself.
The music they listened to is very similar to the dream they wanted to live but could not due to the war.
After reading I got a clear understanding of how the Vietnam War affected people’s lives in general. I was able to sympathize with them just by reading your posts. It is horrible that both the soldiers and civilians had to go through such disasters at a young age.
