One of the things that reading taught the speaker about writing was that it gave those people who wrote it power. Writing being a form of expression allows people to communicate with others where they are able to portray great lessons. So from what the speaker talks about, writers are able to make readers feel like they have been transported inside of the text, being able to imagine what is going on. This is important because it gives the story purpose from the reader’s end and the writer’s end. The writer is sending the reader the message that they want them to receive and how well they portray this message gives this power over the reader as they influence the way that the reader interprets the text. How well the writer does this can determine if that message really stays with the reader. Even if its not a fictional piece that the writer is writing, if what they are writing about is arguable, they can potentially persuade the reader to believe in what they are saying and influence they way that they think about the subject. This can be seen in a way that maybe the writer is writing about a terrible experience that they had that relates to major societal issues. The reader can sympathize with the writer and that subject. This can go for many examples but as a writer, they have great influence on their readers through their persuasion and or use of figurative language. From the point of view as the reader, it makes them interested in the topic and get lost in the text like the speaker did when they explained how they would have to spend their summer days reading. They were so into their books that they really enjoyed getting lost in the book and really wanted to enjoy that time by slowing it down, taking their time and internalizing everything that the writer intended them to and maybe even more through their own interpretation.
