As a new student at Baruch, for this upcoming semester I intend to stay on top of my assignments. English has always been one of my favorite classes because there is never really one right answer when reading and interpreting a text based on each reader’s perspective. One big goal I want to achieve by the end of this course is writing better essays. During the quarantine my school focused heavily on test prep so writing essays was a big part of the class. However, with my transition into college I need to learn how to relax and put more effort into my essays because I no longer have to rush to complete them. Along with these classes I think I may be familiar with the rhetorical analysis essay because that was one of the 3 essays I focused on while in high school. Throughout this course I plan to work on my writing and strengthen it.
To meet my goals and achieve academic success I plan to set up a schedule for completing assignments. I can also add a lot of reminders to make sure I complete these assignments on time and make sure that my work is high quality. Achieving all of this may not be easy as I am going to be juggling school, work, family time and my free time. I plan to sacrifice some of my free time if needed to make sure I don’t fall behind in classes because with online and asynchronous classes together it becomes very easy to forget or put out work that isn’t my best. If I ever need help I will take your advice and reach out to the English department as well as other resources to complete assignments.
Overall, I plan to become a stronger student this semester by planning my time, balancing work with free time, and working on my writing skills. At the end of the day if I learned something from this course I will consider it a win because with online classes learning can be difficult.
Dwayne, I definitely see where you’re coming from when it comes to trying to balance all these different priorities like family, school, work, our well-being, and even sanity sometimes. It can get overwhelming but I hope that with the schedules and reminders you plan on arranging, it alleviates your worries and eliminates the chances of you not being able to present your best work. But like you said, I’m certain that with the help of Professor Gordon, along with you utilizing the resources available to us like the English department and the Writing Center, you’ll reach your goal of having a balanced schedule and enhancing your writing skills; especially with your evident drive to put more effort into essay writing. I look forward to seeing you carrying out this plan of yours and it going the way you hoped for!!!
Balancing out time is not the easiest thing to do, specially if you a person whos usually procrastinate( like me). However, as we grow we start to build more responsibility. Creating a calendar and reminders is the same pathway Im going to take because leaving stuff for the mind to just remember wont be effective specially with some stuff being just remote. I hope this plan works out for you so you wont have to stress excessively on this semester.
