For this assignment, I will be discussing a short Grammarly ad that showed the usefulness of the app for college students. This advertisement appeals to credibility by presenting a coach who works with different students that speak to Grammarly’s practicality. The choice of making the main speaker a coach establishes her as a credible speaker because she works with many students and she would be one of the best people to ask about what her students were struggling with. Her students see this as a teacher approved/recommended app and it makes Grammarly appear more reliable. Also, the speaker being a part of school faculty strengthens the advertisement’s message to a student audience because faculty members are viewed as reliable people who have the experience and authority to speak on the subject. 

The advertisement further establishes credibility with the audience by including college students who have problems with their writing. They make it a point to include the students’ majors which tells the audience that the app can be used in many ways by different student demographics. It shows the advertisement’s target audience is college students and portrays the app as something valuable. It also appeals to credibility by showing how quick and easy it was for the students to use the app. With these students using this app to quickly enhance their writing, it is easy for the audience to see themselves in that situation and makes this app seem very useful to students who need some help with their writing. It also includes common problems these students have with their writing. One student had a problem with repeating the same word and Grammarly was able to offer a solution to his problem. The student’s become credible speakers because they use the app and have had success with their writing troubles. This sells the app to the audience as a quick and easy way to improve their writing.

  1. I like how you supported how the ad appealed to credibility twice which strongly supports your argument. It even showed me how credible this ad is seeing as though I always skip it. Initially I did understand why there was a coach but coach do assist.
