English is one of my favorite subjects in school. It’s been like this from elementary to high school because, in my family, I’m the one who speaks and writes English best! So it’s expected that I have at least a bit of a plan for this class. In this course, I am most looking forward to improving my essay writing skills. As someone who writes frequently as a hobby, I strive for improvement in any way I can. I’m not sure if we will be reviewing grammar, but fair warning, I tend to slip up when writing so a refresh on it would be very helpful! The obstacle I may face is my lack of interest in nonfiction which makes it harder for me to focus on the text. I tend to be more motivated if I’m interested in what I’m reading or the topic. I’m also used to story-telling in my writing so essay writing is an entirely different beast for me. Still, I would say that over the years, I’ve gotten fairly good at it, thanks to my lovely English teachers.

Time management isn’t too much of a problem for me, but I do need reminders of the assignments that are due because I tend to forget a lot. Emails can be very helpful! I’ll be able to plan when I want to start my assignment so if I happen to be struggling with it, I can take the time to contact my professor and ask for any help that may be needed. Side note, I have recently been hired to work as a medical technician trainee so the time I have to study and do work may be very limited. If I ever need extensions, I will be sure to tell my professor beforehand instead of last minute! I truly hope to learn and improve from this course in the future.

  1. I think that it is really great that you’re so into English as a course. This can really help you in this class because you’re motivated to do the work even with the obstacles you may face like your concern with reading nonfiction and even working during the semester. On top of that, you already know what resources you have to be successful in this class.

  2. I think it’s awesome that you write on your own and being able to point out some of your strengths/weaknesses in your writing shows the benefits of that. I share that same feeling of being more motivated when Im enjoying the book. Every thing is better when you’re passionate about it. But honestly, I think you’ll do great despite any book we read.

  3. Cal, considering that English is one of your favorite subjects, I know you will perform exceptionally in this course.

In terms of liking fictional material, I am the polar opposite. Surprisingly, I am more engaged in nonfictional writing, owing to my preference for more factual readings, which many people find tedious. Despite having to study non-fictional texts, I am confident that your writing will be clever and appealing. You might even discover an unexpected interest in non-fictional literature.

  4. Wow Cal ! We have a few thing is common .. time management is also a problem for me as well! Non-ficitonal is also something that it isn’t in my bubble but if it is interesting then I will probably be engaged in it … which is rare.
