The Vietnam War

My group decided to tour the Vietnam exhibit in which its main focus was the structure of the Vietnam war, how things were set up, and how the troops were. Instead of necessarily focusing on the tragedies of the lives lost the exhibit was more of a war tour in which it explained how the people reacted to the war and how soldiers lived. To do so the main sources of information are given through maps, pictures, and videos. The exhibition shows  a map of the war front giving the viewers a clear prospective of the resources and where the united state troops lived from 1945 to 1975. Within the map viewers are able to click on the different places and either watch videos or see pictures accompanied by captions to explain the events within the photo. The viewers get to actually have a tour and ‘walk around’ the war front. This allows people to empathize and get to have genuine feelings about the Vietnam war and its very unfortunate events. In another map, of the home front, it shows the scene of ‘New York City’s Spring Mobilization March’ in April 1967. Through the use of pictures and videos you’re able to imagine how it was to be at an antiwar rally. The videos give you an in person experience as  to how the war was affecting the United States as a whole. As a viewer I was able to feel the anger in the protest through the videos and empathized with the people because of the looks on their faces. Lastly, the exhibit also appeals to the kids by providing a family guide of books making it inclusive overall. with that being said the exhibit influenced the perspectives of the viewers to not focus on the aftermath of the war but on the lives of the people in it.

  1. Your overview of the exhibit gave me a brief understanding of the lives of those who partake in the Vietnam War. As you said I was able to focus on the soldiers’ lives and feelings instead during their fight instead of the horrible aftermath.

  2. I really enjoyed reading your response and reflection on the Vietnam War exhibit. It was detailed and I was able to visualize just how the exhibit provided such a clear and vivid experience for viewers. Your highlight of the outcome of the war and the effects it had on the soldiers, in addition to the lives lost, was also enlightening.
