Nita Mosby’s Ted talk was about the similarities between social injustice during the 20th century and today’s times. She expressed the pain her mother experienced as she couldn’t put her child in ballerina classes because of the color of her skin. She talked about how she remembered how they made her mother feel and how she rejected this idea of a ballerina by calling it “dumb” because of that. From a broader perspective, she was rejected because she was a part of a socially marginalized group. Which she then compares to the problems of today. with the LGBTQ community and how they fight for social acceptance. That’s why the ted talk is based on the call for “unlikely allies” because she wants people to work together to fight for these causes that wouldn’t otherwise do so if they were not being called upon by her. This is the same with the podcast that talks about black lives matter and their fight against social injustice. This brings me to what I can contribute as an individual, I would educate myself in social matters to the degree that I can make my conclusions. Once I’ve made my conclusions, I can act in a way that is guided by what I believe to be true and will make me a more active member of society. Another benefit of educating myself is eliminating any underlying biases within my psych and allowing me to socialize properly within the world. The two references don’t shift my thinking in any way because I still believe that I shouldn’t act in a way that is dictated by emotion. After all, emotions can make you do irrational things. I believe that the only way I can begin to help with the problem of racial tensions or any other is by becoming educated.

  1. Becoming educated about societal issues is the way to go. Instead of being ignorant, you should be more open-minded and look at things from different perspectives before judging.
