What I am most looking forward to learning about is the Qualities of a successful literacy narrative because it is my understanding that your description of your stories is what makes it colorful. As an avid reader, I want to be able to pass down the information I acquire and writing could be a possible avenue for that. An obstacle I can foresee myself doing well in is describing cultural artifacts because it focuses on making connections to society and understanding the meaning on a different level. I would consider myself a truly deep and analytical thinker which gives me the ability to dissect social constructs that can compare to an artifact. As an instructor, I can be helped to excel within this course by challenging me to make my writing more sophisticated. The reason I say this is during my days in AP lit I always struggled to get to that sophistication point and I didn’t know if it was because I couldn’t consolidate my ideas or I had too many of them. Another way I could be helped by an instructor is by giving examples from texts that could allow me to get a visual understanding of how I can improve my writing. For example, I was reading this book called the way of the wolf by Jordan Belfort and he stated that he was able to write the book because he analyzed the style of a famous writer and incorporated some of that style within his writing. I believe that learning from some of the greats could boost my writing skills exponentially. I plan to manage my school and personal life through scheduling. I’ve already created a system in which I wake up in the morning, set my schedule for the day, and do all the things I have to do. I plan on improving that routine by thinking about the things I have to do during the week on Sunday, then calculating the hours it takes to complete those tasks. Lastly, what I hope to gain from this course is to become an overall better writer. If I can become a 20 percent better writer I will feel fulfilled in the time spent being an active participant in the class.
Thank you for the book recommendation! It’s good to see another student with the same goals of improving with writing. I’d like to try analyzing my favorite writers too, and see if I can incorporate their style into my own writing. Good luck with this class!
I also have a struggle with making my writing very sophisticated. I was taught how to in High School, but I usually wasn’t able to put the skill to use. Your time management skills are impressive. I find myself to be very bad at managing my time, but I want to improve in the future. Nice post!
