Xiomara Mejia – Blog #1

English has never piqued my curiosity since middle school. Maybe it was because I couldn’t focus on a text for long periods of time or because I didn’t enjoy reading the boring books that were assigned to us in high school. However, throughout high school, I was consistently placed in the top English classes, which caused me to struggle a significant amount. In this course, I’m looking forward to enjoying English, even if it isn’t my best subject. I would like to get the chance to enjoy a good text/podcast and write about it and tell my friends about it. Writing an essay would most likely be one of the obstacles I would face. However, I believe it is based on the topic of my writing. I enjoy reading fiction, so I’m confident in my ability to write an essay about it.My toughest problem has always been time management. If I have too much on my plate, instead of doing it, I become overwhelmed and ignore my responsibilities, even if it has negative consequences. I wouldn’t know where to start and my mind goes all over the place. But I believe that if I can establish a schedule that balances my studies, my free time, and my social life, I will be able to handle everything. I also intend on using a planner to keep track of when all of my assignments are due and when important papers are approaching, which will be incredibly useful. I’d like to improve my essay writing skills, and in order to do so, I’ll be using the Writing Center at Baruch. Feedback on my work will give me the confidence to enhance my writing skills. Throughout this course, I hope to change my opinion on English, interact with new people, and have a wonderful experience.
