    The tempest is definitely about colonization. The themes are oppression and opportunity (traits of colonization)—Antonio takes advantage of the opportunity presented from Prospero’s “political absence” by invading/taking over his brother’s title/position. Prospero colonizing the island as he takes advantage of the opportunity presented by “rescuing” Ariel, hence oppressing the original inhabitants (namely Caliban and Ariel).

    Speaking of oppression…what happened to “freedom of Speech”? In the state of Arizona the Tempest was banned from Tucson’s School district because “it promotes the overthrow of the United States Government…resentment toward a race or class of people…advocate ethnic solidarity
