Designing this block was the first chance i had to design 3d object. looking back on it now its so simple, but at the time it was a challenge. I had never used Sketchup, and the idea of designing a 3d object was so foreign to me. Still Once i got the hang of it, it was not as challenging as i had thought, in fact i enjoyed it. The process of creating and then printing this block began by designing a exact replica in Sketchup to the block we were given in class. After that i had to save it as a .stl file so i could print the block out. I was a little worried that the Makerbot would mess up but it printed on its first try. The block came out great, i still remember seeing it being build and thinking how awesome it was that i could design something and that same day print it out. If i had to give advise to someone starting out today i would tell them to take it step by step and not to get overwhelmed. Just the project down into small parts and make sure that you are comfortable using Sketchup.
