Blog Post 4: Principles of New Media
When reading Principles of New Media, I realized that I hadn’t actually thought about how much new medias has gone through. I just though of it being there and didn’t acknowledge its history. I didn’t think that, so much math would be involved and that different components in history have brought it to be what it is today.
One quote that mostly stock out to me was “Computers can pretend to be intelligent only by tricking us into using a very small part of who we are when we communicate with them.” This quote made me remember of the times my words would be misspelled when I type and how they would automatically be fixed as I continued typing. When I really think about it, I think it is amazing to have this feature in our computers today. I was also reminded of the times when I listen to music on Pandora, sometime I would listen to music and spanish and suddenly start listening to advertisement in spanish. I think that all five principles of New Media are interesting and it is great that they are something we can work with to help us make our art history interesting as well.
Blog Post 2: “Get to know your plastic” project
The project we worked on Wednesday was quite interesting. I had an idea of how our way of consumptions has brought a negative impact to our planet but, it is honestly not something I think about everyday.
When we were trying to identify the plastic that was used to make our object, I though about how we buy product things with out thinking about what it is made out of or the impact it has on our planet. I also though about how many times we don’t even know what the actual drink or food is made out of. I think it’s funny that sometimes we can’t even pronounce the chemicals used to make our drinks, food or products in general. Although we may sound funny I think it’s something we should think about.
I like that many times we can recycle or up cycle our plastic products. For example when asked what my water bottle could be up cycled to I though it could be turned into jewelry, or a gardening or cleaning tool. But when I did a little more research I realized that people we using water bottles to make houses for people. These houses are pretty cool because they are bullet, fire and earthquake destruction proof. I think that ideas like these are pretty cool because it helps us keep creative by also helping others in need.
Blog Post 1: The Medium is the Massage
I found this article quite interesting and found myself agreeing with some of the things stated. I agree that with the change of time comes a change of communication. Not only has technology changed our lives it has also changed our environment and the people around us. It maybe true that in this new generation the most popular way of communication is through modern technology. I agree when McLuhan writes,”electric technology- is reshaping and restricting patterns of social interdependence every aspect of our personal life”. I find it fascinating that the medium used to communicate with one another can affect our view on what is being expressed.
This is a picture of a television. It extends our vision to how we view society, or better yet how society expects us to behave and relate with one another.
