Artist Statement 2

My work is greatly influenced on my culture and inspirations. Artists who are not afraid to show their origins are the ones who inspire me. I want viewers to be able to see my work and really think about its actual meaning. I want them to see beyond the colors and styles. I want viewers to grasp my ideas and be able to see what I see. Our city is impressively diversified, many cultures share and express their culture in their every day lives. I want to share my culture and heritage with others with my different works of art.

My work is deeply influenced and inspired on my culture, current situations in Mexico, and my growth as at artist. I like to cause reactions on my viewers. My work in mostly correlated, each one has work from past projects. Many things derive form another, and that is how my art works. I use different symbols that help identify my feelings and self.

The images that I show in my projects are mostly images of Catrina, paper airplane and heart. Catrina, reminds me of one of my favorite Mexican Holidays; “El Dia de los Muertos”, on this holiday we celebrate our loved ones that have passed away, by making “ofrendas” or offerings. “Ofrendas” consist of objects that the person liked and that he or she are remembered by. I want to be remembered not by the way I looked but by the goals and acts I have accomplished. The airplanes represent my interest in learning about new cultures. The heart represents the motion and beat that I want my viewers to feel.
