Outsider Discussion

The problem that I discussed in my last post was that my roommate was always tired due to his heavy schedule and had a hard time keeping up with everything around him. I believe that the best solution for this would be a watch-like add-on with an app itself that monitors your tiredness and can suggest different ways to combat it. It would be extremely individualized and for each person like my roommate. I explained the idea of the app to my other roommate. I said how it would be personalized and would say things like drink coffee now, or take a walk, or sleep for an extra 3 hours tonight. My roommate was perceptive as long as it truly allowed the person to feel less tired. He mentioned how there are devices and apps like this out there so this would have to be different. I took all this in and understood it would need to be individualized, unique, and have a high rate of success.

Empathy Post

Going back to my previous blog post it seems that each of the problems can be solved with a logical solution. My roommate could simply charge his phone prior to leaving the office, he can also take walking shoes and regarding his medicine, he could have it delivered to a pharmacy and have it ready to pick up later in the day. One thing I did realize is that my roommate is often very tired and complains a lot due to this. He works long hours, and this takes away from any time he does have. The pain is his tiredness and the cause of it is his long work hours as he works for a very fast-paced company. He has taken some steps to combat this but has been unsuccessful. I truly feel empathy for my roommate as he is always running on a lack of time. It is difficult to see someone you encounter quite often to be in a state like this. Just observing him is as close as I could get to his situation and it really opened my eyes. I think observation would be one of the best ways to see how this person is handling this problem. I would also look at statistics that are available to see how others handle problems like this. An entrepreneurial solution to a problem like this that others increasingly face has to be discovered.

Observation Post

My subject for observation was my roommate Cyrus. One of the problems Cyrus faces is his phone always needs charge. While he does charge it, he finds that by the time he comes home from work he needs to charge it again and cannot use it freely. Due to the fact that a wire constricts him from laying down and being active with his phone, he always has to either put his phone down and wait to use it or be uncomfortable with his phone plugged in, into the wall. Another problem I saw was his dress shoes are always run down because he walks to work, approximately thirty minutes each way. Even the expensive ones can get worn out and he does not take an extra pair of shoes because there is not a lot of storage in his office. One last problem I saw him have was he gets medicine delivered that needs to be put into the fridge relatively shortly after arrival and when no one is home it can be stressful. He will usually ask someone if they are home or leave work early to make sure the medicine is put away promptly.

Childhood Toy Sketch

Please find below sketch of a favorite childhood toy of mine. The objective of this toy was to use two knobs to move rings submerged in water on to the nose of a swordfish. I spent a lot of time playing this as I liked to think alone as a child. I have seen it in many other shapes and forms and still think back to the one I had.
