Twitter makes following people (stalking) easier!

Twitter has added a new update to their site, a new feature that brings up accounts or profiles of people that match certain criteria of your search. For instance if you were to search female R&B, a profile of Alicia Keys or Keyshia Cole my appear. In addition to being able to find people whom are interested in the same ideas and topics as you, there is also the option of searching for the latest updates or blogs on such topics you search for.

Although these new features seem like a great addition, I feel like these new options would work out much better on Facebook, where socialites would better utilized this searching option for a multitude of different purposes 😉 . It seems easier to connect to with people on a facebook than on twitter. However when looking at this new twitter upgrade, I feel like third party users whom are out looking for personal information and self profit can now more easily and quickly find their “victims”.

  1. I guess mothers no longer tell their children not to talk to strangers. Nowadays we’re asked to “follow” them, and you don’t even get candy =(.

I’m not exactly sure how Twitter works, other than you constantly promote yourself, and when you want to discuss a topic…you write #whatever your discussing. In my opinion, Twitter was created for stalking…”Follow Me”…really?

I have heard countless stories of people’s homes being robbed because of their generosity and need to share every little thing that are doing. For example: “Tom & I are now boarding the plane…won’t be back for two weeks!!!=D” That is like a Christmas card to a thief, and they can’t wait to open it, anticipating the treasure inside.

I’ve interpreted this article as showing how a new addition to Twitter was created to help find more people who speak about the same pointless topics a lot faster.
Not to mention, that Facebook already suggests people you should befriend because you have mutual friends with said people. If that is Twitter’s goal then they have definitely accomplished it. Not to mention, people will feel a lot more relevant when they’re topics are being re-tweeted; and historians can find their conversations a lot easier. -_-

When you search for a topic, you’ll get suggestions of people that tweet about that topic

  2. This is kinda freaky. Just the fact that people can monitor your every thought , know what your next move is or even know your whereabouts for the day. Its really kinda weird. when do we realize that we no longer have privacy as long as we are connected these social websites. i personally do not have a twitter account because I really do not see the point of following someone at least that’s not one of my interest. to me social network sites is trying to get people to put their entire life on the internet .

Social networks make it harder for people to keep their lives private an easier for stalkers to find you an know who you are as an individual. Every tweet you make is placing a brand on who you are as an individual on the internet.
