You have been poked!

I dont know what has been up lately, but a friend of mine that has kind of fallen off in keeping touch has recently been sending pokes my way on Facebook. What on earth could such a simple action on mean? Poking someone in the literal sense would seem to me as, a tap or maybe even as naughty as a pinch. (depends where)

But what social undermining could be involved in each poke that you receive or send out?

Is a poke to a new date that you have recently been seeing for the last month the same as say…poking your best friend. It most definitely would not be. If I sent a poke to one of my friends male/female it would most likely be a way of greeting, or acknowledgment, kind of like saying whats up!

However imagine poking someone you are a little more intimate with…I am not even going to go further, because there are countless hidden messages which could be contained in one single Facebook POKE!

I think the idea of a poke is hilarious!!!
If you have less contact with a person then at least a weekly encounter than im sorry to say that a poke is a booty call. if its someone you see alot then i believe its a teasing hello. I hate getting poked because sometimes it feels more intimate then a comment on my wall. I mean it is not nearly as creepy as a private message from a person i dont know but it still feels like whoa their on my dashboard and just randomly left a poke. I actually had a poking war with one of my close friends for about 5 months which ultimately ended in us both just giving up, but the idea of this war started because we were both getting poked by random guys and it was so funny and creepy at the same time to us. I think its just another way that we can interact with others and feel a little closer to people even if it can be slightly awkward sometimes. but i mean even in real life we are exposed to creepy encounters like a hello from a stranger on the train or a whistle from a weirdo on your block so i mean its easy to see how facebook is reflecting real life.
