Keen-eyed Kat

Keen-eyed Kat considers herself rather normal other than the fact that she has a keen-eye for detail. Whether or not it is obvious to those around her, she pays attention to her surroundings as much as she can. She likes to read people and figure them out. Although she likes to observe, she doesn’t like people paying attention to her. She rather observe than be the center of attention. Due to this she hates public speaking but she does it when needed. Her high school was predominantly based on presentations. Instead of regents she had to present 30 minute lessons teaching something she learned that year in each subject. She also used to constantly volunteer to give school presentations at her high school open houses and sometimes she would even present in Spanish but for some strange reason she doesn’t feel comfortable giving speeches or presenting at Baruch.

In class she rather listen than to partake in large group discussions but she hates when teachers pick on students at random because she isn’t good at answering when put on the spot. She rather talk in small groups such as 3-5 people. When giving presentations she tends to get nervous but she usually successfully presents her points. She is usually extremely nervous when she has to hold something while giving her speech because she tends to talk with her hands a lot.

Keen-eyed Kat could definitely become a better public speaker if she’d stop observing people so much while presenting. She’d much rather present to a group of random people than to present to people she sees constantly because her super power allows her to know too much about how people around her will respond. She isn’t good at dealing with her new-found anxiety issues and tends to grow extremely nervous now but she’ll learn to manage and forget about everyone’s reactions.

Stella’s Eidetic Memory

Stella is known to have a long-term eidetic memory. She found out she had this ability when she reached her final year as an elementary school. She would always ace her Spelling Tests and it wasn’t because she studied, which she barely did. Nor was she just plain smart, because she certainly wasn’t at the time. It was her extraordinary memory. No one knew she had this ability. Not even herself. When she was in the 5th grade, she was asked to join the Spelling Bee, because she had the most A’s on her Spelling Tests. The teacher and her classmates didn’t believe she could do it. One of her classmates even asked, if she would prefer someone else to do it. To prove them wrong, Stella took the stage with confidence and became the champion.

However, that was short-lived. As years went by, she unknowingly began to lose her confidence and ended up being self-conscious. In class, she a good listener, but she also easily distracted. In terms of Stella’s general speech communication skills in professional and personal situations, she can be quite lively and silly when she’s around her family and close friends. On a professional note, she would end up losing all her confidence and get cold-feet. Her ability does her no good, when she’s too overwhelmed by a large crowd. Alongside her anxiety and her ability, her presentations would often become too detailed, because she would worry whether or not it was perfect and she would occasionally stutter.

Stella knows she needs believe in herself and learn to control her ability while doing her presentations, because memory is her key talent!

Antonio the “Lawmaker”

His name is Antonio the Lawmaker. He was born and raised during the governmental transition in Uzbekistan. From the young age, he always wondered why can’t everyone have a equal opportunity in life?. As he grow older, his knowledge began to expand. He then moved to USA to get more education and opportunities.

Then, he realized that he was chosen one to bring Justice and Equality for his country. in addition, He loves to debate about politics and history. He speaks four languages, and English is his fourth one. Because of language barriers, his public speaking is not that good. However,He is not shy. He is outgoing person who wants to help everyone. He have a lot of experience with public speaking. for example, he was a member of “We the People” competition which deals with mock congressional hearings where panel of judges ask political question and he and his teammate answers. He loves to speak in public, because he already outcome his fears. he joined clubs such as Council for Unity to go and do community services voluntarily.

His general speech communication in professional situations is great, because he practiced throughout his high school career. However, when it comes to personal situations, he listens more than he speaks. He is at his best when he debates with whole group of people. On the other hand, He is at his worst when he doesn’t know the answer to the question. Overall, he is in pretty good shape when it comes to public speaking. As John F. Kennedy once said ” Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you, can do for your country” which for him, bring Justice and Equality.

Photographic Memory

Aaron who is born with the ability to recall anything that he is presented to. Therefore, Aaron’s grade are always in the top in the school rankings. However, Aaron did not notice his talent until he was exposed to his first statewide test in 3rd grade. He manage to answer every question meticulously and precisely. One major issue Aaron have is not allowing himself to get involved with public speeches or presenting himself to a bunch of crowds nor his classmates. He is petrified of presenting projects to his class or feels uncomfortable when standing in front of a large crowd. Although he have a photographic memory, he does not like to show how intellectual he is in front of anybody. Aaron choose to deliberately not talk in class because he wants to be unknown. In addition, even though he does like to talk in class, he loves to make friends with everyone because he believe that friends are motivations for acquiring knowledge and also the most crucial which is gaining experience through hardships together with friends. Despite the fact that Aaron wants to befriend with everyone, he is very skeptical type of person. He does not trust people unless he knows that person for a certain amount of time or have an adventurous experience together. Furthermore, he has a habit of leg shaking when presenting himself to others, which is probably the reason why he can hardly make any friends with everyone in his class. However, Aaron would try his best conquer his fear of presenting himself to everyone. His Communication class he is assign to would help him loosen himself up to the Real World…

MO THE MIND-READER

There are many things that Mo has kept secret from the public, such as his unique abilities that give him a distinctive edge when he speaks or presents in front of an audience. After the many requests from the people, Mo is willing to share his secret with the rest of the world.

At the age of six was when it became visible that Mo was not like the other kids in his class. He would not speak a word for days, but would have his eyes locked on the teacher and would not turn for even the slightest noise or interruption. He began listening so much that his memory grew to be remarkable. He wouldn’t speak much, but one thing he did say was that “listening through ears is simple but to listen through the eyes is real talent.” He would live with this quote and became so good at practicing what he preached that he could hear you without you saying a word. He used say that “a person with such a loud body didn’t need to speak a single word.” In other words what he meant to say was that someone whose body language was so visibly animated didn’t need to speak a word to get his point across.

In high school Mo developed his power of reading minds. He would just need to have direct eye contact with someone to determine how they fell about him or what they are thinking about. When giving presentations, Mo took full advantage of this ability and used it to its fullest capability. He would begin his presentation and scan the room to see how the audience responds even before they have a chance to give any feedback. It took practice but Mo became so good that he would talk in a certain way so that most members in the audience would be satisfied. During interviews, is when it worked the best. That was because when Mo would begin his interview he would already know what kind of response the employer would give and if he impressed him well enough to earn the position. His elevator pitch has become so authentic that employers would hire him on the spot.

With his many advantages came weaknesses. One weakness Mo still suffers with today is being overly meticulous. In the beginning teachers and friends would tell him its good but after it became so hard to move forward without having every little detail perfect, Mo realized he needed to learn to make mistakes and eventually learn from them.

Roarin’ Ray

There’s a myth about the great metamorphing cheetah/human, its name is Roarin’ Ray. Roars so loud to wake up the whole jungle. Speed almost as fast as light. And human figure well…just as normal as any other human being. The oldest of three, Ray has had trouble throughout her whole life accepting her powers. Yeah it had its pros like never being late anywhere or never having to deal with traffic, but she always knew how her not being normal separated her from everybody. She could fight the biggest jungle predator, and save people who needed help far away with her quick senses but her worst and biggest enemy was attention. When all eyes are on her she panics and she can see her supernatural powers flying out the window as her heart races, she tries to stumble a few words out but its never felt right.

Jealousy of how people can be in the spotlight and act as normal as ever made her weaker day by day. Until one day, Roarin’ Ray realized that she didn’t have to be her alter ego cheetah in order to stand up for what she thought was right or wanted to do. She embraced the new feelings into her life with open arms.

She built up with given speeches to herself, then to friends, and then to even groups of people. Before she knew it she had no alter ego, she was Roarin’ Ray. Outspoken and ready to show people the world through her eyes with beautiful stories of her wild jungle adventures or fierce battles against the evil.

Now there’s a new frontline that Ray is racing towards… To earn the highest grade in Communication 1010.

Journey

Journey was born and raised in New York. Barcuh is the third college she has attended and hopes it will be the last. Moving from school to school  has made Journey excited to try new things, meet new people and stand out from  everyone else in the crowd. At first one might think Journey is very quiet, but once you get to know her she isn’t so quiet after all. When Journey presents you might notice that there is an excessive amount of hand motions going around. There is never a situation where Journey is not moving her hands all, it’s the way she feels that her point has been made, and it keeps people engaged and intrigued in what she has to say. Journey presented twice in front of a classroom, but she never got the feeling of presenting in a large crowd. In personal situations journey is out there talking, socializing, and never shy. When it comes to professional situations at first she is always scared, biting her nails, not sitting still, and all of a sudden becomes mute.  Although, once she begins her speech, interview, or such she goes with the flow, starts moving her hands around and completes with full confidence instilled in her.  In class, Journey will strive to be a great student, participate when she can and build greater confidence in public speaking, as she will need it for her career in future.  Let the Journey in Baruch COM1010 begin!

Hannabel and her telepathy

After discovering her telepathic abilities, Hannabel left her parent’s cozy coop to strive for independence. Hannabel moved into a small house in the middle of Hickleville. Although Hannabel’s telepathic powers should be beneficial, it has been causing distractions when she has to present herself orally. She has always been surrounded by many people who are very expressive but she still finds it challenging. Throughout her life she has never been the ideal public speaker.

On many accounts when it is required of her to do presentations, she grows profoundly nervous and the excessive buildup of anxiety causes her to feel as though she can hardly breathe. The nervousness and being able to hear mental critics of others decrease her self-confidence. She has always struggled with orally presenting to a crowd of strangers even though she fully comprehends her presentation.

In a class, Hannabel forces herself to participate as much as possible because she wishes to change the poor self-confidence that she has. She is not a shy individual but she is not as audacious and blatant as the people around her. Since she is new to these telepathic powers, it is difficult for her to concentrate mentally. Her powers force her to uncontrollably listen to other thoughts while doing a presentation.

There is quite a huge difference between Hannabel’s speech communication skills in both the professional and personal scenarios. Since the personal situations consist primarily of an audience that she is regularly in front of, it makes her more confident and comfortable than that of a professional situation with complete strangers. Hannabel tends to be more loud and humorous in a personal situation than she would in a professional one.

Relative to oral communication, Hannabel is at her best when she is among her friends and family; she can be herself in these situations. But she is at her worst when she is among strangers; she doesn’t act herself because she doesn’t want to be judged and discriminated against.

Erik The Great!!

Erik Romero

Erik The great is not like any other teenage boy he has a gift, the gift of metamorphosis. He has the ability to transform into any animal. Other than that he’s considered a pretty average guy. He doesn’t really see himself as a super hero mainly because he think’s it’s overrated, he prefers to use his power to his own use and benefit. He sometimes turns into a cheetah to race to school or work when he’s running late; he turns into a mouse to sneak into clubs and amusement parks, he also uses his animal transformation powers to impress the ladies. His powers seem to sometimes interfere with his class work and participation. At times he becomes a chimpanzee and goes wild when it comes to calling out answers and talking to his peers. During presentations he becomes a rabbit and prefers to run away from them. Although he is not a very shy person when it comes to communicating with others; his body overwhelms his power and controls his morphing abilities during nerve-wracking presentations to a large group. Sometimes during a presentation he becomes a turtle and his words are too slow and he stutters. At other times he becomes a parrot where his words become hard to understand and to fast to comprehend. His biggest challenge would be to overcome his fear of large crowds. He knows that he has the ability to do better because when he is confident he becomes a lion and proudly presents his ideas. Erik the great has the potential too get an A+ in his COM 1010 class.

Speedy Juicy

By: Lisbeth Mejia

Juicy is the oldest of three siblings. She has long, brown hair but always wears her hair in a low ponytail. She wears geeky glasses and has beautiful brown eyes. She is a major makeup fan. She always has a red lipstick on or a violet one. She is as a white as a snowflake. Juicy has an ability of speed. She can be at a destination in less then a minute. Her two other sisters have the ability to read minds and strenght.  All the abilities are kept on the low and are only used when necessary. Juicy is a very shy, quiet girl. She tries not to draw as much attention to herself. Therefore, her communication skills were very weak. However, while she was in high school, she was in a business major, where she had to present a variety of presentations. Byher junior year, she was entered into a business plan. Where she had to speak in front of an audience and judges. She was always nervous a few days before. However, once she was there speaking, she just went with the flow of it. But Juicy tends to touch her hair and shake her leg alot. Juicy has noticed that she speaks more fluently when she gets comfortable but tends to stutter in professional situations. She is at her best when the topic is of her interest. Its easier for her to come across her points. She is at her worst when she is being timed. She gets extremely nervous and loses her concentration. She now thinks of a presentation as an obligation. She has to do it and she’ll keep doing it throughout college, so she might as well start improving her skills. Sometimes she wishes she had a public speaking ability rather then speed. Life would be so much easier.
