Andrew Tate’s Influence on Children and Adolescents
For many years, women have been fighting for their rights in America and to be respected like their male counterparts. For example, during the Women’s Rights Movement in the early twentieth century, women’s right activists fought for suffrage, equal pay, and labor rights. Although it has been a hard battle, women have made significant progress. Although women won the right to vote fourteen years after Susan B Anthony died, women are still getting paid less than men in 2023. Moreover, Roe v. Wade was overturned last year which undermined the legal precedent that women have a right to privacy and autonomy over their own bodies. In general, reversing Roe v. Wade had a serious detrimental effect on women’s access to healthcare and their right to an abortion, especially for those who live in underserved places. As women continue to fight for equal pay and reproductive autonomy, certain media personalities are presenting regressive views about women, which threaten the rights women have worked so hard for. Yet, Andrew Tate, a self-described misogynist, has recently risen into fame and is influencing many young citizens to believe men are superior to women, and that they should stay home because they are equivalent to property. Former professional kickboxer Andrew Tate has gained notoriety for his frank opinions and actions on social media. He has a sizable fan base thanks to his aggressive demeanor, self-promotion, and divisive viewpoints on a range of subjects, including politics, gender, and race. He promotes a luxurious lifestyle to his audience and has ongoing investigations on suspected human trafficking, forming an organized crime group, and rape. Therefore, Andrew Tate’s ideology is extremely troubling as it can undo the progress women have made, so this essay will argue that Andrew Tate could negatively affect American society economically, psychologically, and socially due to his massive influence in pop culture.
Tate provides mediocre courses to his viewers and sells them a fantasy that this course will help them become rich. Specifically, he sells online courses at Hustler’s University which teaches people about topics such as digital marketing, crypto, and eCommerce. However, all of the information he provides can be found for free on YouTube and is very basic. Essentially, he charges fifty dollars per month to feel special by being part of an elite community who worships him. To add on, he encourages members to promote his course by providing fifty percent of the lifetime value of a sign up, so there are floods of positive reviews and no one can tell how truly worthwhile his courses are. Thus, the New York Post calls him notorious for these actions and states that some critics call his program a pyramid scheme. Pyramid schemes are unethical and dishonest business strategies that rely on enticing new participants to generate revenue. While those who participate in pyramid schemes may initially experience some financial success, there are a number of drawbacks to these tactics. Many participants in pyramid schemes experience financial loss. The vast majority of participants will not receive a return on their investment, however early investors may gain some money. This is due to the scheme’s reliance on an ongoing member recruitment; as a result, there are eventually not enough new members to support the existing members. Pyramid schemes may have a broad effect on the economy. When a lot of people lose money in pyramid schemes, it can have a negative impact on the economy as a whole, causing instability and financial hardship for a lot of people. Summarily, Hustler’s University is seen as a scam and as he overcharges people for his classes, which is doing more harm than good for society.
Andrew Tate’s influence among youth is particularly alarming because of his views on mental health. Andrew Tate is affecting the minds of young men especially when it comes to acknowledging mental health. He states the depression isn’t real and if you have this mental illness, you’re just lazy and finding an excuse for your actions. In a reupload by Inspirational Tribe on Youtube of Andrew Tate’s opinions on depression, you can hear him saying “Depression is nothing but extreme selfishness…it’s your cure-all excuse for failure. When you’re depressed, you can fail in every human metric. I fail at everything, but I’m depressed. It’s not my fault. No, you’re a failure. That’s all you are.” This is absolutely untrue and there is a lot of science that backs up the complexities of this disease. For example, according to a Harvard University study, this disease is often caused by stressful life events, genetic susceptibility, and poor mood regulation by the brain, so it isn’t as simple as people being lazy. Plus, from a biological point of view, issues with nerve cell connections, nerve cell proliferation, neuronal circuits, and levels of neurotransmitters impact depression significantly. His words have sparked outrage among many celebrities including J. K. Rowling and Patton Oswald, leading them to attack his tweets online. Tate making such ignorant comments would harm people in real life. A person suffering from depression may get even more depressed when they try to “stop being lazy” and they see that they can’t get out of the hole they’re in. This may make them feel worthless, stupid, and their efforts wouldn’t amount to anything. Dr Danita Morales Ramos, a black clinical psychologist and a licensed professional counselor who has her PHD, LPC, LPCC, and LMHC, states “You and I both know that depression does exist, so pfft…I’m not going to debate with the brother on reality. If that’s his reality, I’m not going to debate with him about that.” Therefore, an influencer with no background of medicine or biology should not be commenting on depression.
Andrew Tate had impacted America’s society negatively by promoting harmful gender stereotypes on multiple social media platforms in order to facilitate his ability for his videos to go viral in minutes and reach a widespread audience. Tate controversially asserted that women shouldn’t become physically strong and fit in a post on Instagram in 2020, writing, “Women don’t belong in the gym.” This suggests that women should concentrate on being feminine and attractive instead. Moreover, in a tweet from 20117, he stated “All women are prostitutes, some just charge less than others.” Clearly, he is very problematic and has negative views on women. In a debate with Piers Morgan who is a broadcaster, Tate stated that he “prefers to date women who are eighteen or nineteen even though he is currently thirty-six years old because it’s easier to shape them.” The official video called “Andrew Tate vs Piers Morgan: the full interview,” has nearly ten million views and has 95,818 comments – most that are positive. A comment by the user Guadi sp has 20,000 likes which says “The funniest part for me was when Andrew told Piers: “Piers you’re on my side, you’re just afraid of being cancelled along with me…(laughing emoji)”. This comment has many replies showing their support for Tate such as “that was straight up TOP G move lol” by a user named eddiesridez. In the interview, Tate further explains that women’s minds are more malleable and they don’t have the experiences older women would have. This is extremely concerning as people under twenty five think with their amygdala, the region of the brain that is responsible for emotions, while people over twenty-five think with their prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain that makes wise decisions and thinks about their long term effects.
Since he is highly idolized and explains to his audience online why he thinks younger women are more attractive, it will lead to more men across America trying to date younger women. This is concerning as encouraging other men to find victims will create a large pool of women who would find themselves in unhealthy and potentially abusive relationships. If these women ever do get out of that relationship, there would have to be a lot of inner healing that they will have to do and working with a therapist would be very costly. Moreover, he believes women can’t drive, are men’s property, and rape victims should hold responsibility for the crime that happened to them. Thus, these gender stereotypes being spread increased misogyny in schools, homes, and in relationships. Since he was elected as Teen’s Favorite Influencer, it is apparent that he has become a role model for many young teens. This is extremely troublesome as teens lack developed critical thinking skills, leading kids to blindly absorb all the misogynistic views Tate imposes on them. This means kids could treat other girls in unacceptable ways. Since not all kids will report this kind of behavior to an adult, this kind of behavior will continue and these girls will be severely negatively impacted by it. Most likely, these effects will most likely follow them for the rest of their lives. Since it is harder to reverse views that you’ve learned as a kid than when you’re an adult, it is critical that we do something now. Tate’s videos that circulate widely on social media platforms are being consumed by young men who then go on to make lewd, inappropriate comments to their female peers in classrooms and other social settings. A user on Twitter by the name of tinapunk reposted a video from a teacher on TikTok witnessing eleven-year-old boys calling girls in their class “fat” and they “use men to get money.” This was very concerning to the teacher as she was told by the boys that they were fans of Andrew Tate, and they’re repeating everything he says without considering the meaning. Specifically, these boys were talking about how they “work hard for their money” and that girls are going to take advantage of them for it. It is depressing to see how young boys are being influenced at such a young age about issues like feminism through Tate’s regressive views. As such, society had become more misogynistic because Andrew Tate had become a role model for many, negatively impacting how girls and women are treated in society.
To summarize, Andrew Tate has done a lot of harm online. His words have negatively affected America’s society socially, psychologically, and economically. Specifically, he claimed women are less significant compared to men and promoted stereotypes such as women can’t drive. In addition, he’s running a program that claims to help users become rich, but he charges fifty dollars per month and the information he provides is quite standard. Lastly, his words against women are making them more uneasy about America’s point of view on women, and he made ignorant statements on depression such as how it’s not real. Therefore, issues regarding Andrew Tate need to be more widely regarded by the public.

This article was about how a teacher is witnessing eleven-year-old boys calling girls in their class”fat” and they “use men to get money.” This was very concerning to the teacher as she was told by the boys that they were fans of Andrew Tate, and they’re repeating everything he says without considering the meaning. Specifically, these boys were talking about how they “work hard for their money” and that girls are going to take advantage of them for it.
This article is going to be beneficial for my thesis as it shows the real world effects of Tate’s videos on young minds. It is without doubt that other schools are experiencing this and it will create unsafe spaces for girls to grow up in. If these boys continue with this way of thinking, it will ultimately harm society.
