Here at Startup City we take pride in bringing you the newest and best information on startups, but we cannot be everywhere at once. This is why we are coming to you to ask you if there are any new startups you have heard of that have made an impact on your life.

That is what brings us to, Darren Edelson from West Harlem. Edelson woke up one morning without a place to live, saying “My life was turned upside down when I had to leave my home.”

Living in Harlem almost five years Edelson had grown accustomed to the atmosphere and area surrounding the City College campus but he was finding no luck on Craigslist. He needed a quick and easy way to find out if anyone needed a roommate within the area around City College. In comes the first “From the People” startup, Roomi.

Roomi is a Manhattan based startup with an app to solve all of Edelson’s issues. After using Roomi for two weeks, Edelson said he found hundreds of potential roommates all within the City College area.

Roomi is a user based roommate finding app that lets you create and share listings for any price, it is not based on any sort of commission and is completely free to use. Edelson said “Finding an apartment was super easy with Roomi, it also didn’t feel sketchy like Craigslist.”
