My mother got laid off two years ago in June of 2008 from her job which she had for 18 yrs but she still seems to support both my sister and I with the help of welfare. Although I love my mother with all my heart she seems to not appreciate my father’s help with the economic situation and rather then save up some money she goes and buys the newest blender in Macys or the newest perfume in Bloomingdales. I currently don’t work or help my family in any way financially but I do become concerned when I notice that she has a shopping addiction even in out times of need.

I feel it’s very important to save money especially in a crisis of economic need which my family and pretty much the whole country of the United States suffers currently.  I believe it is necessary to spend money on important materials like our rent, bills, and daily food. My mother’s excuse is that she is depressed after losing my younger sister in a devastating accident she has suffered from depression which she displaces on shopping which makes her happy. The benefits of my mothers shopping addiction is that my sister and I always have what we need everything from shoes, clothing, and technological goods. The negatives of this shopping addiction is her inability to have control over the budget , she seems to have no limit when shopping and is usually asking my father for money while she spends it on retail.

I attend Baruch College because I want to become Human resources major. Human resources consists of becoming a manager who usually is involved with training, paying and managing the employees. Being involved with employees of a company I can help organize the lives of other while help to improve my own life as well so I don’t become victim to uncontrollable addictions like shopping. I hope to one day help my mother by giving her advice and using my past experiences to help employers of my own company.
