Hi, I am interning with The Brooklyn Paper as a photojournalist. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday I am “on call” pretty much. I am working with two staff writers, and for the editor. When they have a story that needs a photograph they call me and ask that I go get a photo and send it to them. It’s really a lot of fun. And I enjoy the experience I am getting in this field. I hope to get better at taking news style images.

I am also going to Ecuador this summer to study Spanish, and work on organic farms. I am going to learn about indigenous plants and reforestation, and about local agriculture as it relates to local economics. I will be doing a photo essay about my travels. I want to find an interesting story to report on.

Hi, I’m interested myself in traveling and working, such as you’re going to do in Ecuador. Is there any way you could give me some information about how you hooked up with the program? I think you can email me from this site, and it would be most appreciated. Thank you, and have fun!

It is not a program per se. I decided to go to Ecuador for two months. I will take Spanish lessons at a non-profit school for two-three weeks. After that I’m doing a couple of different things. But one of them is working on organic farms or WWOOF’ing (Willing Workers on Organic Farms). People can WWOOF all over the world and learn and contribute to small farms working to grow organically. Many of the farms do other things like teach local community about self sustainability, reforestation, and other projects. When doing this you are expected to contribute full work days. There is no exchange of money, in exchange for work you get free room and board.
