The Temple I visited is located in Flushing New York. I go visit queens very often to stay with my friends. Sometimes when they come back home from school, I visit them since I’m really close with their families. The Temple that they go to is Called Sri Maha Vallabha Ganapati Devasthanam. A lot of my friends also from Edison, Jamaica and Long Island go there. So I figured why not visit something familiar with them since they always go there. They are very big on the Youth and make sure that they are involved with the community. Sri Maha Vallabha Ganapati Devasthanamhas events all year around but some events are more signigicant to the youth. The Ones that are more for the youth to partake in and they come home from school for the weekend are Holi, Diwali, Rakhi day, and Rass Garba day. They are very big on making sure the kids are involved because they will be the ones making sure these events take place in the future. Since this is one of the Biggest Temples people come from all over the place to take roles to be part of the Administration at the Temple. These people are all volunteers and they do not get paid to take these roles. The structure is very clear cut and it is taken very seriously because they have an Executive Board, Board of Trustees, and Regular committee members. But just because you might have a small role in one of the committee doesn’t mean you play a big role in helping the community. They do a lot of community service also. Like during a natural Disaster in Gujarat, India they played a significant role in making sure the people in India were safe.

The temple that I am attending is in Flushing Queens. The full address is 45-57 Bowne Street. The temple has been recently renovated and has an impressive exterior. At first glance you can see that it is a place devoted for worshiping the Hindu God Ganesh because of the large portraits and statues of him. When first entering the temple, i was surprised to see a bit of diversity. The attendees were not only South Asian. There was a designated area for shoes and belongings and the walls of the temples were covered with frames, statues, and paintings. I was surprised to learn tha the temple actually has 20 committees. Each committee has aan average of about 5 to 6 people in it. These committees help organize services and events as well as maintain the temple and its attendees. The people that were there at the service seemed very relaxed. Some were families and other were individuals but all seemed to be comfortable with one another. People were seated in the center of the room. There were drums playing in the background and everyone began to sing songs. It was admirable to see how a Hindu servvice could bring so many people together. I was also please to see how involved the temple was with the community. It provided classes for everyone from language courses to tutoring sessions for the major subjects. Emphasis was always placed on the fact that ALL people were invited to participate. There are also daily activities for senior citizens and various summer programs for the youth. The temples involvement with the community and organization with the servicces and events shows how much the the organization cares not only about their own devotees but for people in general.

Many thanks for sharing these kind of wonderful threads. In addition, an excellent travel and medical insurance plan can often eliminate those issues that come with travelling abroad. Your medical emergency can soon become costly and that’s bound to quickly impose a financial weight on the family finances. Putting in place the best travel insurance package deal prior to setting off is well worth the time and effort. Thanks a lot
