Green Ribbons at an Organic Fair

The Common Ground Country Fair, held late September in Maine, promotes an organic life style. Vendors sold food like organic French Fries, barbequed lamb, and sausages. The fair “drew out 59,000 people… and netted $300,000 in ticket sales” (Anne Raver). The proceeds go into training farmers for a new organic method of agriculture. This new form stresses a more natural way of farming, like horses over tractors and limiting fertilizers. The fair is conducted every year to celebrate the towns devolution to organic food and a rustic life style. The harvest is a very important part of the culture, and a lot of people have attended the fair since they were kids.
