Artist Statement

The more I’ve been exposed to/expose myself to art, the more broad the word seems to get. So I have developed a sort of love hate relationship with “art”. They say art provokes emotions good or bad but I think as an artist, I would like to take my audience on an intentional journey instead of simply “hey let me just squiggle some lines, call this art and sell it for millions”. People like to deny it, but media plays a huge role in our perceived world and how we interact with each other. It may not seem like I’m saying anything too out there and that’s because I’m not. Directors, musicians and all other artist have this huge platform to change the world but I feel like it’s being taken for granted. Of course everyone won’t understand my art but I sort of prefer it that way. The same way children’s movies have “adult jokes”,  I want my art to have layers that can be appreciated on a surface level as entertainment but also can be appreciated more holistically as a body of work and hopefully provoke thoughts outside of the piece it’s self. If you don’t understand it as deeply as your neighbor, then that’s perfectly fine, the joke went over your head, better luck next time. But if you do understand what I’m saying, then I hope it sparks something in you that many pieces have done for me. One theme I’m particularly fond of is “what is good and bad actually?”. In a world where having a personal opinion is dangerous and screenshots/video playbacks can be taken out of context and used as damning evidence, its only a matter of time before everyone has to watch what they say, not just celebrities.
