The Lullaby is a blog devoted to exploring the connection between songs and memories through the stories of everyday people.
Created in 2020 as a long-form research project by journalism student Kayla Williams to feed her curiosity in the human interaction with songs, The Lullaby aims to provide a collection of answers to why music elicits strong memories from people. Many blogs today that focus on music offer a perspective from the makers of the songs that are enjoyed but what about the individuals and cultures those songs impact? What about their stories and emotions? There is an opportunity to highlight what those songs do for people and their cultures. Why is their accompaniment important to moments in everyday life or history?
Through a combination of profiles, interviews, and news features, the goal is to uncover the raw and beautifulness of the memories people possess using music to unveil them. With the love for songs at the forefront, The Lullaby List will be a monthly feature that highlights people of all walks of life and their Playlist; creating a communal music collection motivated by real stories.
