Blog post #3

The killing of George Floyd, was another tragic, senseless killing of a black man. However this one was a little unique in the global impact it had. In America people took to the streets to protest the killing of Joege Floyd, by arresting the cops who wrongfully murdered him, and then defending the cops. These protests then spilled across other countries from as close as Brazzile to all the way to New Zealand. I believe what sparked such a global outcry was because of how close it hit to home for some of these countries. During the podcast, I found it very surprising that in some European countries like New Zealan, their police force don’t actually carry any firearms. This is thanks to a British tradition to stop the police from becoming too much like the military. Alas, the the New Zealand government has been pushing to arm their police force. After the killing of Gorge Flood it opened peoples eyes to exactly how dangerous the police can be, and the people of New Zealand took to protesting the armament of the police force.

America has always sparked some kind of change in other people’s countries. When The United States of America wasn’t the U.S, it was the 13 colonies. The 13 colonies were under unfair treatment of British rule. The colonies were being used as crop factories, and natural resources dispensers. These goods would then be shipped back to Britain making the British richer and richer while they exploit the people living in the 13 colonies. The 13 colonies basically had no legal power and were completely governed by the British. Eventually the Colonist had enough of this and tried to revolt in what is now known as the “Boston Tea Party” by throwing away one of the British most beloved and profitable crops ,tea, in the harbor. This angered the British immensely, so they brought down heavy punishment on the colonists. This created tension between the colonists and the british which eventually exploded into the American Revolution in 1775. Long story short the 13 colonies won against all odds against the mightiest Empire at the time. This had shockwaves all around the world. The American Revolution showed other countries that just because they are the underdog doesn’t mean that they don’t have any teeth, that they too can grab on to freedom and never let it go. This then Led to the French Revolution in France, which then led to the The Boxer Rebellion in China and many other revolutions where people were fighting for their freedom.
