In the ted talk “Want a more just world? Be an Unlikely Allie” podcast there is significant talk about why there is a limitation to the amount of change that can be seen. Especially when considering how long people have been fighting for the things that they want to be changed within the world. The podcast talks about this concept of “Unlike Allies” which are people who are willing to stand up for people when they might not be expected to. The podcast points to the idea that if the same people are the only ones that are fighting for change they will only get the same results. But if there were people who could stand up for these people desperate for change that are not expected to help these groups then there would be different angles of reasoning and as a result, more change would be accomplished.

The other podcast, “The Air We Breathe, Implicit Bias and Polic Shootings” weighs on ideas of racism and how a by-product of it is police shootings. Clearly, there is a trend that is undeniable that more black people are shot and killed by the police than are white people. Also, with so much evidence to prove that be true through the age of the internet and countless showings of police brutality, it is very hard for people to defend it. More than often people will hide under the excuse that the police go where the crime is. Which happens to be the urban areas that are more densely populated with minorities than white people. However, this statement can be easily debunked when viewing a video similar to the Rodney King beating or the George Floyd tragedy.

In my own personal life, I can see the concepts explained by both podcasts very clearly. Especially the “unlike allies” concept because it is much easier to mind your own business and minding your own business is a principle that almost all people in this country are taught. Furthermore, everyone in the country does have the right to worry about themselves and only themselves, as selfishness is a key component to the fundamentals of the country. However, when it comes to serious things such as the rights of other groups besides yourselves it is mostly immoral to not stand up for them. Similar to what happened in Europe during Hitler’s reign the people who did not speak out are also the people that assisted in his evils.
