Josh Levine – Blog Post #1

I have always enjoyed my English and writing classes in the past and am therefore looking forward to English 2100 this semester. I am excited to read and discuss articles and poems with the class, and I appreciate how the small size of the class allows more inclusive discussions to take place.  I also look forward to reading my classmates blog posts and learning from my peers.

I think the best way for me to grow in my writing and learning is to be given constructive criticism where it is needed and positive feedback when it is deserved. Learning from my mistakes is a good way to improve so I hope to receive many notes on my writing assignments so that my writing may improve for the next assignment. Hopefully, as the semester goes on, I will receive more positive feedback.

Since this semester is online, I am given more time to complete my work due to cutting out commute time from my schedule and some classes becoming asynchronous. However, it is easy to find that the day escapes you because of little distractions and interruptions throughout the day. In order to manage my time, I created a schedule that includes getting out of bed early to accomplish any work before my first class begins. In between classes I plan on working on assignments in order to be as productive as possible. I will work and attend classes until around four thirty-five—with a lunch break around two o’clock—and then take a break to spend time with my family and babysit for my one-year-old niece. After dinner, I will try to complete any work I have left to do and leave time for myself to relax before going to bed.

One of the things I hope to gain from this class is more experience in writing. I would like to feel more comfortable handing in writing assignments that I may have for future classes. I hope to succeed in this class and for my writing in this class to set a precedent for my future assignments in my college experience.

I also really like how compared to some other college classes, we have a very small class. It’ll allow everyone to feel more included and hopefully nobody will feel like they are hidden behind all the other students. It’s true how the day can really fly by without you even noticing it because of all the distractions of being home.

    Hi Josh,
I think it’s great that you are starting out with a time management system in place—that is the number one thing people regret not doing at the end of the semester, in my experience.

I definitely think this class can get you to the point of feeling confident in submitting writing assignments for classes in other subjects. We will work on fundamental elements of strong writing which apply across disciplines.
